The History of the Monaco Grand Prix over the years
|   Tuesday, June 04, 2013
There have been a lot of tracks in the history of the formula one championship. The Monaco track has been amongst the headlines for almost every season. This track seems to have a history that no other track in the world can match. Over the years the track has undergone the least amount of changes compared to the other tracks.

This looks like the weirdest of the tracks that has steep turns, running downhill and even a subway. This is not a paradise for the racers.
However if a rider is clever enough to adjust to the pit strategies of the track then he could well come on top of the heap. The track has never seen the most of overtaking in races. The speeds are good but overtaking becomes really difficult with the narrowest margins of error.

One error on this track could mean an end to the race for a driver. In 2003 in the entire race of 78 laps covering close to 161 miles there was not a single overtake in the entire race. The Monaco GP remains one of the most awaited events in the sporting calendar because of the history that the track holds.

This year it is the 72nd time that the Monaco GP is being held. The most outstanding record for this track is held by team McLaren. They have 15 wins on this track. This track has never favoured the championship leaders. Experience and pit strategy will come in very handy on this track.
The greatest racer on this track has been Ayrton Senna. He has won the Monaco GP for six consecutive years starting from 1987 to 1993. Though the most remarkable moment on this track for the great racer was in 1988 when the great Senna set a record 1.4 second faster lap than his then teammate Alain Prost. Alain Prost was also his greatest rival.

After Senna it was Graham Hill who has the best record on this track. Hill won the Monaco GP five times. The track has been the place for the most unpredictable results over the years. Olivier Panis and Jarno Trulli are two racers who have won only one race in their entire careers and it was recorded on this particular track. A track where conditions can change in a matter of seconds and tyres can burn out quickly, fuel is one of the most defining strategies on this track.

Talking about drama on this track how can you ever forget the race in 1982? Alain Prost who was the championship leader was leading the race when he crashed out to give the lead to Ricardo Patrese. He had a bad spin and gave the lead to Didier Pironi. He too ran out of fuel in the race and the lead was with Derek Daly. All the race leaders ran out of fuel or damaged their cars. Patrese who had resumed the race again after the bad spin managed to win the race.
