The Golf Plus Replacement, Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan, Presented
|   Wednesday, May 14, 2014
The Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan is the new appearance in the German manufacturer's range and comes as a replacement for the Golf Plus. Talks about a compact MPV developed to offer generous interior space that comes with lower fuel consumption and a lower mass than the model it replaces have been going on for a while and now we have it.

More specifically, the Golf Sportsvan is 90 kg lighter than the equivalent version of the Golf Plus, while fuel consumption is reduced by up to 20 percent.
The most economic version of the model gets to have a stated average consumption of 3.6 liters per 100 km and emissions of just 95 CO2 grams per kilometer. After folding the rear seat, the Golf Sportsvan volume rises to 1520 liters.

The Golf Sportsvan benefit from safety features such as lane keeping assist, frontal crash prevention system with automatic braking system, blind spot monitoring and rear monitoring system. The latter is dedicated to the prevention of accidents that can occur when leaving the parking space in a line of cars, when the vehicle is in reverse and the driver cannot observe any vehicles coming from behind. In addition to the safety elements, the Golf Sportsvan is offered optionally with a new infotainment system that integrates mobile systems and aggregators of online services such as Google Earth, Google Street View and "Online Traffic Information".

The engine range which equips the compact van from Volkswagen includes six engines, all turbocharged. Thus, we have four TSIs, which provide between 85 and 150 hp, and two TDIs delivering 110 hp or 150 hp. Except for the entry-level TSI, making 85 hp, all engines in the range can be ordered together with the DSG transmission. The entry-level diesel, displacing 1.6 liters and making 110 hp, provides an average consumption of 3.9 liters per 100 km, 0.3 liters per 100 km higher than the dedicated BlueMotion version. The latter presents aerodynamic changes and low rolling resistance tires to obtain a combined consumption of 3.6 liters per 100 km.

With regards to the external appearance, the new Golf Sportsvan doesn't come with anything in addition to the exhibit of the same unit Volkswagen presented at the Geneva Motor Show. We can
notice the optical blocks, different from those of Golf, the silhouette is significantly altered and the taillights that follow the same design idea, but with a different size factor. Compared to the Golf Plus, we can see an improvement in the appearance, although the final result is far from winning any beauty prizes.

Like the Golf hatchback and Golf Estate, the Sportsvan will be launchd in the "Trendline", "Comfortline" and "Highline" trim versions. Even the base version offers standard features as XDS+, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking system, air conditioning, seven airbags, a tire pressure monitoring indicator, new electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, a 5-inch touchscreen, variable cargo floor, cargo space cover and practical unlatching of the rear bench backrest from the boot space. The Sportsvan is also the first Golf to offer a heated steering wheel as an option.
