The Ford EcoSport Arrives In Geneva
|   Wednesday, February 27, 2013
In recent years a spectacular increase in the popularity of small class SUVs has been seen. Taking advantage of this trend, Ford is launching at Geneva the European version of the new EcoSport city crossover. The main attraction of the Ford stand at the Geneva Motor Show will be the European version of the Ford EcoSport. The SUV has gone through some changes, especially regarding the suspension and steering in order to be well received by European customers.

The interest for the new the Ford SUV, which will, by the way, compete directly with the Nissan Juke and Opel Mokka, reached a high enough point so that the official European version will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show not too long from now.

In addition to the EcoSport model, the Ford stand at Geneva will host the full Tourneo range models, including the new version Tourneo Courier, a van built on the Fiesta platform.

Located on the border between a small class hatchback and a compact SUV, the EcoSport will be positioned below the recently launched Kuga and the future Ford Edge crossovers range, entering into direct competition with the Nissan Juke and Opel Mokka, as well as the new Renault Captur, or Suzuki S-Cross.

Under the hood of the new the Ford EcoSport, based on Fiesta's current architecture, we will find the award-winning EcoBoost turbocharged three cylinder 1 liter engine, pumping 125 horses, and a new Ti-VCT aspirated 1.5 liter engine with 110 horsepower. Customers paying attention to daily expenses can opt for the economical 1.5-liter diesel rated at 90 horses, the same as the one present on the B-Max.

Ford has not yet confirmed the availability of an all-wheel drive system on the market in Europe. In Brazil, the top version, with a 2 liter engine and 141 horsepower, is fitted with independent rear suspension and traction on all wheels. The EcoSport is equipped with gear or differential locks but being adapted just like the competition to the paved roads running in large urban areas. The ESP system and Hill Start Assist, Hill Launch Assist will be standard from the base model.

Despite its compact dimensions (length 4241 mm, height 1765 mm, height 1696 mm), The Ford EcoSport promise generous interior space and an ideal driving position, lower than a traditional SUV, but higher than in a hatchback.

The new model can accommodate four or five passengers in good comfort and practicality was not neglected: 20 storage spaces are available, totaling a volume of 21 liters. The loading of large cargo volumes ranges between 322 and 705 liters with the seats folded.

The series equipment list will not miss the Ford SYNC system with voice command, 3.5-inch color display, Bluetooth connectivity, calling 112 emergency services, and it provides GPS coordinates of the car in case of an accident.

Another premiere is the SYNC AppLink system that allows full integration and voice access to the functions offered by smartphones connected to the control panel of the machine.
This little SUV will not be manufactured in Romania, as originally thought; instead the small crossover, the first dedicated to emerging markets, will be assembled in China, Thailand, Brazil and India.
