The First Rolls-Royce SUV To Go On Sale In 2018
|   Saturday, January 28, 2017
The first SUV from the British brand Rolls-Royce named Cullinan was spied for the first time while being tested on public roads in Munich. It is expected to officially debut in 2018.

With the increase in popularity of the SUV segment, more and more car manufacturers have left everything aside and turned their attention toward customers for this type of vehicle.

Brands like Maserati or Bentley began to develop so-called luxury SUVs which target fans of higher ground clearance, but that probably will not ever leave the tarmac and for whom money is no problem.

Following these two giants, the British from Rolls-Royce prepare an all-terrain vehicle as they like to describe it. Baptized Cullinan, it was spotted for the first time in tests on public roads in the Bavarian capital of Munich.

The British company representatives said when they unveiled the first images that their new model will not be a traditional SUV. In addition, they said that the car will enter a rigorous program of testing. They will continue after the winter holidays with some test which will be held at the Arctic Circle, although the car is designed especially for the United Arab Emirates market.

The site selection for tests is really surprising, but industry rumors say that the future SUV will participate, ultimately, in a series of tests in the UAE desert. The prototype from the images clearly indicates that the model will have a conventional bodywork with five doors, and will wear design brand specific features, such as the impressive radiator grille, and the vertical line that stretches towards a slightly raised hood, which allows painting in two color tones.

The Cullinan SUV will benefit, according to rumors in the press, from a new suspension system and an all-wheel drive system. What is really interesting is that the people at Rolls-Royce admitted that the loyalists or faithful owners have already seen the model that is transported at this time to the Arctic Circle to test durability and traction.

Rolls-Royce has not yet revealed any technical details for the future model, but what is already known is that the Cullinan SUV will be built on a lightweight platform of aluminum, which will be the basis of all the new models, set to be produced from 2018.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV is based on the aluminum platform of the new generation Phantom, from which it borrows the reverse-opening rear doors (suicide doors). For starters, under the hood you will probably find an improved version and stronger V12 engine with a displacement of 6.75 liters, which according to rumors, will be followed by hybrid or electric versions too.

In connection with the chosen name, the brand's officials said the car was aptly named after the largest rough diamond in the world. Considering the latter assertion, we can understand why the model is aimed specifically at Emirati sheikhs.

However, we will see which what the preferences of rich people will be, because we know the Cullinan will compete directly with a car that already is on the market, Bentley's Bentayga, but also models like the Lamborghini Urus concept, or the first SUV from Aston Martin, which is now called DBX.
