The Current Production Of The BMW M3 Was Exhausted
|   Saturday, May 11, 2013
Waiting for the new generation of the M3, MW promised an additional six months in the company of the current M3 Coupe and Convertible before the new best thing was out. Not enough, apparently, because the predicted production was completely sold.

Friedrich Nitschke, head of the Bavarian manufacturer performance, wanted to make some clarifications on the future of the most popular German sports model. The official said that the current the M3 coupe and convertible will remain with us for up to six months.
"Actually, it is sold out. We will build the coupe and the cabriolet for about another half year, but on principle, the cars are spoken for". This will ensure the transition to a new generation that is already in final testing.

However, the current generation has enjoyed a great popularity. This has made all the copies that are to be produced in the next period to be already ordered. Practically the programmed production of the current BMW M3 has already been exhausted. Those who want the performance model must await the arrival of the new M3. Also, as specified by Nitschke, potential customers can opt for one of the SUVs, X5M or the X6M.

He also said that we will see new BMW engines, optimized to meet the needs of a client from the M class. The possibility to have a four-wheel drive system on these versions, however, was completely excluded. The motivation was one in which the installation of an xDrive would affect the reporting of mass on both decks would hold back the whole and damage the steering. "We are convinced that would be the case. An all-wheel-drive system means 150 to 200 pounds more weight, and a clear loss of precision in steering. Ultimately, the competition between the brands would be narrowed to straight-line performance. And, by the way, we do not believe that this would be a sustainable approach".

Nitschke spoke about the future of the three-cylinder engine the Bavarians have. The whole deal is about the unit with a capacity of 1500 cc, 500 cc each for each cylinder. The potential of this engine is huge. The official was very optimistic regarding this engine. "The three-cylinder is an attractive engine. It is possible to reach around 185 to 200 horsepower per liter in a forced-induction three-cylinder and we have 1.5 liters of displacement. Such an engine, which, by the way, sounds very similar to a six-cylinder engine, would have over 310 horsepower. And we are not even at the limit there. Generally speaking, I could imagine such an engine".

The declaration of the German official promises at least 300 horsepower for the three-cylinder engine in the future. It was left be understood that there is room for use in the M range, which would be neat.

Furthermore, speaking with Car And Driver, Friedrich Nitschke also said this regarding electromechanical power steering and its fitting on the new models: "Without confirming any product speculation, it is safe to assume that we will offer electromechanical power steering in the future. The technology is now fully on par with a good hydraulic power-steering system."
