The BMW X5 Has Reached The Third Generation
|   Monday, June 03, 2013
The BMW X5 will be getting in the second half of the year its third generation. It comes 14 years after the first generation, and is behind two predecessors who have managed to accumulate more than 1.3 million units sold. The Germans from BMW say that the X5 is the best selling model in its class, which they titled Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), whose inventor they say is the X5. In contradiction to their statement sits the Mercedes-Benz ML, which launched two years before the onset of X5, classified as a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), but without any kind of problem framed in the same segment with the BMW X5.

The X5 measures 4.886 mm in length, 1,938 mm in width and 1,762 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,993 mm.
The third generation of X5 has a spacious interior, and comes with a luxurious ambience. Driving position is high, and board clocks were mounted below to provide additional visibility. The board and its ornaments have been extended towards the doors to ensure a more attractive design. The interior variability increased, with the rear seat folding asymmetrically in 40:20:40 formats. The luggage capacity has increased to 650 liters. It is also possible to achieve a maximum volume of 1,870 liters in the case that folding rear seat.

At launch, the new The BMW X5 will be offered in three engine variants. We are talking about the xDrive50i, xDrive30d and M50d M Peformance. Starting with December of this year, BMW will offer these versions too: xDrive40d, xDrive35i, xDrive25d and sDrive25d. The latter version is the first rear propulsion diesel of the X5 range, and has CO2 emissions of 149 grams per kilometer in mixed use. This presence is strictly linked to tax reasons, some states favoring models with low CO2 emissions.

The most powerful engine at launch is on the xDrive50i, which is a revised version of the TwinPower Turbo V8 unit that delivers 450 hp. In second place is the M50d version, a tri-turbo diesel 3.0-liter that delivers 381 hp.

Although we are talking about a nearly two ton SAV, BMW says that X5 is more efficient, all versions being equipped with Auto Start Stop, EfficientDynamics technology, Eco Mode Pro and proactive driving assistant. Last, but not least, all engines complies with the rules of the Euro 6 standard (available only from September 2014), and are equipped with eight-speed automatic transmissions as standard.

The third generation of the X5 comes with a Head-Up Display in full-color, Night Vision with a detection system for humans and animals, Dynamic Light Sport system, a new generation parking assistant system, which includes both a set of cameras, and a system of longitudinal and lateral directions, active cruise control system with Stop & Go, Drive Connected Internet-based services and more.

BMW has introduced a support system in heavy traffic, which allows automatic control of vehicle speed and steering wheel, allowing relaxed driving in heavy traffic. In addition, the X5 has a warning system related to the presence of pedestrians on the road and can automatically brake if an immediate impact with them is imminent.
