The all new Mazda 6 unveiled
|   Monday, October 08, 2012
Mazda's new estate the Mazda 6 is here and this petrol powered vehicle is in a league of its cousin, the Mazda 6 sedan. The vehicle was a hit with the customers and the sedan found many takers and Mazda hopes to achieve the same kind of popularity and sales with the launch of the estate.

The Kodo design language of Mazda is more appropriately visible on the estate and this is a better looking vehicle than the sedan was. The production vehicle is set to resemble this vehicle closely and Mazda plans to introduce the estate along with the sedan.

The estate however is high on space and features a 522 liter boot with the rear seats on and this is increased to 1632 liters once the seats have been pulled out. The interior space of this vehicle is close to that of the Ford Mondeo and these two vehicles feature similar performance and technical features as well.

In spite of its large size, Mazda claims that the Mazda 6 is lighter than the sedan by 10 percent and this vehicle sports the advanced Sky Active G technology of Mazda's innovative petrol family.

Two distinct engine options are available on the estate and the power train options produce 143 BHP and 163 BHP respectively. The compression ratio of the vehicle is 14:1 and the 2.2 liter diesel turbo charged engine is the most powerful in the lot till further improvements in the power train range.

This engine is however quite refined and save more fuel than the present model of the Mazda 6. This is possible as the ignition technology burns the fuel better and this result in more fuel efficiency. The petrol engine fires up at 155 ft lb @ 4,000 RPM and the 2.2 liter petrol generate enough power to make the ride comfortable and entertaining.

On pushing the car hard, the engine makes a deep growl and this is pleasing to the ears. However, a little more torque would have been much appreciated. Nonetheless, the Mazda 6 estate is a fun to drive vehicle and its excess height poses a problem to aerodynamics.

Although the vehicle is huge, maneuvering the vehicle is not that difficult. In fact the car tends to corner quite well. The vehicle could be used for travelling along the freeway but its size is a concern for city traffic.

However, you cannot blast open the engine every time you want to cruise and accelerating the vehicle is quite a painful job. The vehicle accelerates from 0 – 60 mph in 9.1 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the Range Rover 4 and considering the fact that the Rover is an SUV, this is not a satisfactory figure.

The Mazda 6 estate has a top speed of 133 mph and this is by no means adequate for a vehicle which is set to be used on the freeway. Mazda 6 is a great vehicle for family use, but it is not recommended if you are looking for the pure fun of driving.
