BMW is getting ready to showcase the all new X4 SUV at the Detroit Motor Show fall 2013 and the vehicle was cleared for production early this month. The X4 will go into production by the beginning of 2013 and the first badge will be available at showrooms in the United Kingdom by the beginning of 2014. The X4 will however be sharing its steel monocoque design, engine and drive train features with the second generation X3. However, what differentiates these vehicles is the exterior styling.

The X4 will be aggressively styled and hence this will put it on a much higher segment as compared to the X3, when it launches. While the X3 features coupe likes design, the X4 will be an aggressive SUV. The base price for the X4 is expected to start from 32,000 Pounds in the United Kingdom and prices for the high end models have not been announced formally, although the insiders claim that the vehicles have been designed keeping in mind the current economic crisis in the continent.

Minor external modifications is what separates these vehicles and differences in styling features can be compared on the X5 and X6, which basically share the same drive train features, but differ in styling and trim levels. The X4 will have newly designed head lamps along with the BMW grille up front and will most probably features DRL, an insider has claimed, although nothing has been confirmed officially.

With an aggressive roofline and heavily face lifted side lines, the X4 is set to be a show stopper and BMW fanatics are waiting for the official launch of the vehicle fall February 2013. Powering the X4 will be a 6.0 liter twin turbo, turbo charged Petrol engine that is also used in the sixth generation M3. BMW is also working on launching a sports model of the X4, named the X4 M that will be the top end product in the M lineup. This is just a concept at the moment and the final plans need clearance before it can be officially announced.

BMW is also planning a triple turbo charged 3.0 liter upgrade to the X4 in the form of the X4 M40d and this vehicle will be powered by a six cylinder diesel engine. The diesel options will be provided once the vehicle launches and the BMW X5 and X6 will also feature diesel power train features once the new vehicles are available in the market. BMW has a fast growing range of vehicles and diesel options are a vital part of any lineup considering the times.

The economic downturn affecting the globe has been a major spoilsport to BMW's plans of launching new vehicles and the company has shifted focus from manufacturing high performing vehicles to economic cross over and coupes that are more appealing to the customers considering the time. China has proved to be a major support for the customer base considering the time and hence the vehicles are being manufactured considering the needs of the Chinese market in mind.
