The all new Audi R8 tested on track
|   Tuesday, January 29, 2013
The all new upgraded supercar from Audi – the R8 – packs in a whole lot of fun while sporting 235 / 35 R19 x 295 / 30 R19 front x rear tires. However what this vehicle feature in addition to sticky rubber is Quattro all wheel drive. The R8 was tested on wet and snowy conditions before and although the vehicle did not fail, it did suffer due to loss of traction.

Audi has finally solved the problem and there is more good news too. Audi has installed optional manual transmission too and this is better than the single clutch transmission system used in the vehicle previously.
The transmission system played spoilsport in the past as it was sluggish and stopped the V10 engine from performing to its level best. Drivers need to push aggressively to make the gearbox respondents.

When tested on the track, the new R8 seemed to provide a whole new ride and featured smoothness of a new level altogether. Of all the changes made to the R8 this time, the most significant one was the change in the transmission system. The new seven speed manual / automatic transmission system makes the vehicle 40 percent cheaper, yet 40 percent more efficient than its predecessor.

Audi is planning on making this transmission system standard on the V8 powered version of the R8 apart from the V10 version. In fact this transmission system makes more sense in the V8 version as it would provide more space for the vehicle to operate. The current clumsy gear box makes driving bland and this is just what the car might need at the moment. The steering wheel mounted shift levers have been modified and they provide a sweeter ride as compared to the predecessors.

However, the driver's seat could have been placed a bit more aggressively as it would do justice to the position of the steering wheel. However, the current arrangement is anything but uncomfortable. The interior is pretty much the same with some minor changes like the gear shift pedal. The instrument cluster also features minor tweaks although no major changes have been made.

The R8 features iPod connectivity and use of chrome has been increased to give the vehicle a complete look. From the exterior it is quite difficult to spot the differences with the first model of the R8 apart from the exhaust pipes and the use of LED indicators. The headlamps have also been swept sideways and this makes the R8 look even more aggressive.

The R8 also features new 19 inch sports alloyed rims and no significant changes have been made to the chassis. The chassis is perfect and needs to modifications as of yet. The ride height is in accordance to that of the Porsche 911 and the chassis is ever ready to take on the challenges put forward by the driver. The Quattro four wheel drive technology distributes 16 – 20 percent of the power to the front wheels while the remaining is transferred to the rear wheels.
