The 4th Generation Renault Clio Is Here - Video
|   Thursday, July 05, 2012
Well, the official launch will take place at the Paris Auto Show, but the French company has already revealed some information concerning the car. Renault is very excited about it saying that this is the complete rebirth of the Renault designs. Speaking of which, the 4rt gen Clio draws heavily from the DeZir concept's styling, which is a good thing, considering how good that looked; observe the front end of the car for an example of that, namely the grille.

For the first time ever in this model we have LED tech implemented in the headlights, as well as integrated handles for the rear doors. Compared to the version it is replacing, the new Clio has a more dynamic aspect due to the lower distance between itself and the ground, a larger width, and the positioning of the wheels. When the vehicle will finally be available in showrooms, buyers will be able to choose from 8 colors, including the Flamme Red (the paint found on the DeZir concept car).

Moving on to the interesting parts, we arrive at the engine chapter. Those interested will be able to choose from a wide variety of engines. These include the turbocharged 0.9 liter with 3 cylinders unit running on gasoline, the TCe 90, capable of 89 horses and 99 lb-ft/ 135 Nm of torque, and the 1.2 liter TCe 120 engine rated at 118 horsepower and 140 lb-ft/190 Nm of torque (this will be available in the first half of 2013). Diesel fans will get the 1.5 liter Energy dCi 90 unit capable of delivering 90 horsepower and 162 lb-ft/ 220 Nm of torque; it will have a fuel economy indicator of 3.2 l/100 km or 73 mpg.

On the inside, serious improvements have made their way. According to Renault officials, material quality and finish have been significantly upgraded compared to the model replaced. Alongside, we also get to enjoy the latest techs Renault developed so far. For example, we can now find the Bass Reflex system, as well as the multimedia R-Link which arrives equipped with a touch screen 7 inches wide. The Tom-Tom navigation system will also feature, along with Internet and Renault App Store access. One interesting application is the Renault R-Sound Effect; it can simulate up to 6 different engine noises synchronized with the actual engine sound.

Now for the bad part: it will not be available in the US. But that can be said about all Renault models, which haven't set foot in the American market for 2 decades. Unfortunately, there is no hint whatsoever that that will change anytime soon. No doubt, the company would rake in a good number of sales in the US; a car that managed to win the Car of the Year title twice no doubt has a few fans in that part of the world too. God knows what the reasons are for staying out of the US auto market for this long, but we cannot help but feel sad for this situation.
