The 2014 Fiat 500L
|   Monday, December 03, 2012
To show Americans that the overseas market is more important to them than it seems, those caring people from Fiat prepared a world premiere at the Auto Show in Los Angeles. The Italians brought the Trekking 500L model there which is the first extension of the monocab range.
Although the naming leads one to think that off-road capabilities are included, the truth is that 500L Trekking is not exactly suited for bumpy rides, although it will handle itself reasonably.

On the outside, the new 500L Trekking has a number of accessories that enhance it. The front and rear spoilers have been modified with plastic moldings that appeared in the lower body and the wheels have been replaced with standard 17 inch alloy wheels. Interior wise, the Italian designers have relied on the monocab's customizable character. Thus, the inside was customized in two colors, black and brown, with the leather upholstery offered and the standard Uconnect multimedia system including a 5 inch touchscreen.

Another major evolution lies with the quality of materials used. Plastic has become friendlier, softer and, in addition, can be customized in quite a number of colors; officials say no less than 333 combinations.

The cabin is well lit, thanks to the the bright colors of the instrument panel as well as the multimedia screen measuring 5 inches and coming equipped with a tactile function. It has a lot of functions making a long drive more pleasant, but shorter drives are no exceptions either due to the simplicity of use.

Everything can be showered in a bath of light of your choosing, due to the panoramic roof and sunroof with electric drive, both with a total area of 1.5 square meters.

Measuring 26 inches longer than its predecessor, it can be said that the interior space is generous for both front passengers and those in the rear seat. It can smoothly accommodate even three adults, and place foot is enough for anyone. The flat floor helps a lot in that regard.

The air conditioning system, which has also been simplified, is easy to use and well placed in the dashboard.

And because Italians are Italians, Fiat decided to fit something a bit special. The new model will come with an accessory that will delight all coffee junkies. Together with Lavazza, Fiat has developed an espresso machine that can be mounted the central armrest. So while waiting for the green traffic lights or if placed in a slow traffic flow, you can enjoy a good coffee, freshly delivered in the car.

The new 500L Trekking will be produced at Fiat's plant in Kragujevac, Serbia, alongside the standard model. This means that despite its disclosure in Los Angeles, the model will be sold in Europe.

The release date is scheduled for the second half of next year. The version will be the most expensive in the range, having regard to the list of standard equipment. Fiat wanted to make a benchmark in the segment with 500L, but it will be difficult, given that the car has to face stiff competition, coming from the French and Korean automakers.
