The 2013 Jaguar XJ Gets A Supercharged V6 As Standard
|   Sunday, July 01, 2012
Previously, the 2013 Jaguar XJ had a V8 engine acting as the power plant. However, the new plan for the vehicle is to drop the normally-aspired 5 liter unit in favor of a turbo V6. This fact may indicate that a turbo V6-powered Range Rover Evoque R may indeed be considered, or it may mean nothing. Maybe in a few months we will get our answer to that question, but at this point that matters little.

Ok, moving on to the topic at hand, the XJ's 3 liter V6 engine pumps out about 330 horsepower, meaning it is less powerful than the V8 it replaces by 50 horses.
To make for that, other aspects have been improved, like gas mileage. The base XJ will be able to travel 25 miles for each gallon of fuel; compared to the present XJ indicator of 19 mpg that represents a 33 percent improvement. Torque is rated at 332 lb-ft at its finest, and becomes available between 3500 and 5000 rpm. Sending that power to the wheels is left in the care of an 8 speed ZF automatic transmission, an upgrade from the 6 speed box we were used to.

If Jaguar is right with its estimates, the car will be able to go 0 to 60 in about 5.7 seconds; that number is valid in both the standard and long wheelbase versions. Top speed will be electronically limited at 155 mph. If we take these figures and compare them to the 5 liter V8, there isn't much a difference: the V8 puts the cars past 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. The money saved on fuel with the smaller V6, on the other hand, might be a more attractive incentive to buyers than gaining 0.3 seconds.

The modification list doesn't stop here. Other tweaks for the 2013 XJ include making the Meridian sound system, so far only found on the XJ Ultimate, available throughout the entire line. The infotainment system has been overhauled too. Redesigned navigation, entertainment, and connectivity screens, as well as other features are now available to make your journey easier to bear. A slightly revised suspension tune works to raise comfort levels across the XJ range. Furthermore, most of those updates will also be seen of the 2013 Jaguar XF.

The aforementioned modifications have been announced in a general approach, so we don't know yet if there will be any sizable differences between various locations of the planet. However, fans of the V8 engine will still be able to enjoy its presence for the 2013 model year in its turbocharged version. Models using this engine remain basically unchanged, so if the smaller engine is not enough to deliver satisfaction, you now have a choice.

Note that the V8 version works only on gasoline, while the V6 versions can operate on both gasoline and diesel. Considering the lack of popularity diesel enjoys in the US, that engine choice is highly unlikely to make there.
