The 2013 Ford Focus Electric unveiled
|   Tuesday, September 25, 2012
The main stream vehicles from Ford have always been expensive machines that normal people were unable to own. The same can be said in case of the all new offering from Ford, the Focus Electric. However, this car is important to Ford as it bring about a certain revolution in electric motor technology.

The Focus Electric has a 6.6 kW battery on the vehicle which renews the depleted charge at almost double speeds as that of the 3.3 kW batteries. The 3.
kW batteries are used on the Nissan Leaf and it takes seven hours to charge the vehicle. The 6.6 kW batteries on the other hand can be charged completely in just 4 hours.

The substantial braking ability of the Focus Electric is also more than the Leaf's and if you apply the brake lightly on the Focus, it does not enable the hydraulic system and as a result the batteries are charged more productively than on any other vehicle in the range.

Even the braking ability of the Focus Electric is more than that of the Nissan Leaf and the overall efficiency of the Ford is also greater than the Nissan's. In fact the Ford Focus Electric can travel close to 100 miles without the need for recharge and this is not possible on a Leaf.

The gadget console on the Focus is better to look at and the readings are quite clearly done. The large displays are not too bold to look odd but not too small for comfort. The advantage of using an electric vehicle for daily commuting is that, you save a lot of money on petrol and hence the overall deal is quite a profitable one.

The electric motor on the Focus is quite powerful and produces 143 BHP power and 183 ft lb of torque. Hence, the acceleration is quite smooth and effortless and the single transmission system performs to its optimum level to power the vehicle.

The car will not feel as powerful as the basic Focus due to the absence of the other gears. However, cruising will not be a thing f concern as long as you are on this machine and you do not have to worry about running out of fuel for at least a hundred miles after recharge.

Although the Focus is fun to drive, it has a limited top speed of 84 mph, a problem with almost all electric cars. However, this is not a performance oriented vehicle and its main purpose is to save fuel and the planet. If you keep that in mind, the Focus Electric is an awesome machine.

Although the Focus is a value for money car but its downside is the huge price tag of 25,000 Pounds. This is the price after Government subsidies and hence if this outrageous amount has to be spent, there are at least a thousand other ways of doing it.

Therefore, if you are a diehard environment activist, this is the car for you. For all others, it is just a waste of money.
