The 2013 DEKRA Top: Audi A4 - Best Of All Classes, BMW Z4 and Ford C-MAX - Cars of the Year
|   Sunday, March 10, 2013
The DEKRA was founded in Berlin in 1925 as Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungs-Verein meaning German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association. With around 25,000 employees and revenues of roughly 1.9 billion euros, DEKRA is the largest inspection company in Germany and the third-largest in the world.

Its newest report, a document that seeks reliable cars in the early years, shows that things are pretty stable in this area, for the European industry at least.
The car that was named "Best of All Classes" is the same as last year, the Audi A4, meaning that the German model retains its parameters very well, regardless of mileage and falling category. Also, the Ford C-Max and BMW Z4 were on par, entitled "Vehicle of the Year", cumulating both the same number of points, each in the class to which it belongs.

The Audi A4 exceeded this year two cars just as valuable, the Mercedes C-Class and Volvo S80/V70, which received fewer points, despite the remarkable performances in categories. "Our report acts as a guide for potential buyers of used cars. It provides detailed information about defects that are commonly found in a particular model and establishes a hierarchy for each vehicle in relation to similar models in the same market segment,"said Gerd Neumann the DEKRA representative.

The DEKRA defects index (DFI) was introduced in 2011 and has become a tool used by private buyers and interested companies. DFI calculate the ratio of the percentage of cars with no relevant defects and the percentage of cars with significant defects, which adds accuracy in positioning each model.
DEKRA also specifically analyzes if the defects stem only from the operating systems. That means that it is not considered a defect that which is caused by improper use or maintenance / improper servicing of the machine.

The lowest segment is the mini and supermini cars (A + B). The Audi A1 came in first place, with an index of 97.1. The compact class leader was declared Ford Focus, with 97.3 points and the BMW 3 Series was positioned first in its class with 97.1 points. In other premium classes, the Mercedes E Class received 97.4 points in class E, and the BMW Z4 had a score of 97.7 in the sport segment. Also, the BMW X1 was declared leader in the SUV class, with 96.2 points and the Ford C Max minivans received 97.7 points. In the business segment, Volkswagen is again winning with 77.6 points, surpassing the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Peugeot's Boxer.

Each category has several sub-segments, depending on mileage. Thus arises the general classification, all classes and all walks of kilometers. Thus, the winning cars retain their qualities and low number of defects and a large number of miles. The Audi A4 has managed this with a number of high points, 87.4, followed shortly by the Mercedes-Benz C Class, 86.7 points, and the Volvo S80/V70, 86, 3 points, which was previously positioned on a lower position.
