The 13th Ford F-150 Generation
|   Thursday, January 16, 2014
Ford took advantage of 2014's start and the beginning of the largest event that takes place on their home turf at the Detroit Auto Show to present the latest generation of a model that does not say a lot for Europeans, but is one of the most sold cars in the world. The F-150 is the most popular pick-up in the F-Series range made by Ford. This range, in the last 32 years represents, in all its versions, the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. market.

The model lost some weight, and that weight loss comes not only from construction techniques but also from the engines.
In this sense, Ford has equipped the new F-150 with the new performance units that will gradually replace the V8 fitted on the American model. On the list of engines available for the F-150 we find a 2.7-liter EcoBoost, which comes as standard equipment with a Start-Stop system, and a new V6 displacing 3.5 liter.

These engines will be added to the units already present in the American pickup line, such as the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 (365 hp), and the V8 engine, 5.0-liter Ti-VCT (360 hp). Ford did not provide figures on fuel consumption and power, but analysts expect that the new F-150 and its line of EcoBoost engines will take the lead in the race to win the segment in terms of fuel efficiency.

The F-150 is the most popular version of the F-Series pick-up line that Ford sells in the United States since.
Launched in 1975 with the arrival of the sixth generation of the F-Series, the F-150 version (then placed between the F-100 and F-250) was able to immediately attract U.S. customers, fans of this type of car, adding no less than a third of the F-Series sales, in less than one year since its official launch.

In 1999, Ford decided that the F-Series range should be simplified, and now it consists of F-150 and Super Duty versions, the latter containing the F-250, F-350 and F-450 variants.

The Ford F-150 has received over time interesting special versions, the most notable being identified by the acronym SVT (Special Vehicle Team). The Ford F-150 SVT Lightning was launched in 1993 as a sports version of the American pickup, its production continued until 2004. The name SVT reappeared in the line F-150 in 2010 with the release of SVT Raptor.

The F-150 was seen by U.S. customers as an ideal solution for the everyday life because of its utility and dimensions suitable for wide roads and highways. Today, the F-150 is the model with the highest profit margin from Ford's range, so that the launch of the new model is seen by analysts and media as one of the most important news regarding the range of the American manufacturer in 2014.

The American culture of pick-up gave birth to the interesting rivalries in this segment, even though competing models have always been looked down in terms of sales by Ford. The most famous names in the list of direct rivals of the Ford F-150 are Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra.
