Tesla to launch the Model S late 2013
|   Monday, October 22, 2012
Car makers Tesla have been working on a project to prove to the world that electric vehicles are just as good as petrol vehicles when it comes to the road and to prove this fact, the car makers have launched the Tesla Model S. Tesla's last launch, the Roadster was basically an electric Lotus Elise, however the Model S promises to be more.

Tesla has already produced 10,000 units of the roadster and plans on manufacturing 20,000 more units by the end of 2013.
Although the Model S is an electric vehicle, the styling is very modern and dynamic and at the first attempt it is very difficult to highlight this vehicle as an electric. The vehicle is still in its concept stages and the final project is expected to finish fall 2013.

The Model S packs in visual cues from the Jaguar XF, Ford Mondeo and the Aston Rapide and it has no characteristics on the exterior which proves its similarities with an electric vehicle. The vehicle also features a false radiator grille. The vehicle has been designed like any other road going petrol car and this has been done to maintain familiarity for the users. The vehicle is not complicated and a host of features have been installed to maintain simplicity.

Tesla does not mind experimenting with the projects and the concept Model S is one such example. The wheel base of the vehicle is its characteristic property. The vehicle is 3 inch wider and 0.4 inch longer than the Porsche Panamera Turbo S and features most safety and luxury features. However, the power generation is a thing of concern and the excess weight could pose a problem for the engine to bear and perform.

Electric vehicles are not seen as performance vehicles and the engineers from Tesla plan on changing this chain of thoughts. The Model S features a 7 inch touch screen connected to the internals of the vehicle and the level of connectivity includes USB, Bluetooth and WI-FI. The interior parts like switches and shafts reminds one of the Mercedes Benz vehicles and this is not a surprise as the parts have been lifted off Mercedes.

The interior is quite roomy and there is enough space for five fully grown adults in the vehicle. Luggage storage capacity is optimum and the vehicle can pack in luggage and people for long trips without the slightest hint of difficulty. The double wish bone multi link suspension has been used on the front and rear and this provides optimum ride height and comfort. The vehicle does not sport a transmission system and has just the front and rear shift knob.

The motor is refined and with the launch of the Model S, Tesla has redefined the meaning of refinement and performance on an electric vehicle. Priced at 97,900 Pounds the Model S travels from 0 -60 MPH in around 4.4 seconds and the vehicle features a top speed of 130 MPH. The vehicle can travel a total of 264 Miles without recharge and this is the result of an engineering marvel.
