Technical details of the Porsche 918 Spider leaked
|   Tuesday, October 30, 2012
The technical details of the all new Porsche 918 Spider has been revealed by the company and as per the initial reports, the vehicle will be displacing 784 BHP of raw power. Priced at 625,400 Pounds, this is not the cheapest in the lot; however it definitely is one of the most powerful Porsches ever.

The Rennsport forum has seen a documentary leading to the technical details of the Porsche 918 Spider and this is expected to be the cause of the leak.
However, the spokesperson from Porsche has failed to determine the authenticity of this documentary and as a result there is a lot of speculation regarding the vehicle. This leak follows the brochure leak of the 918 Spider which was seemed last month.

Therefore, the recent specifications could be what are actually on the vehicle only if the company sources confirm. The Porsche 918 features a 4.6 liter turbo charged V8 engine which develops close to 572 BHP @ 9000 RPM and 372 ft lb of torque. Total power output is estimated to be close to 784 BHP with 569 ft lb of torque and this can be reached within 1000 – 4000 RPM.

Peak torque formation occurs within this range and the engine is Euro V compliant. An electric motor is also installed in the Spider along with the electric engine and this assists the main engine in power production. With a total of 241 BHP, the electric motor produces 127 BHP at the front wheels and 114 BHP at the rear wheels.

Power is distributed equally with the help of a seven speed PDK transmission system together with the Porsche Torque vectoring Plus system along with the Electric Porsche Traction Management. All these combined, the engine and transmission is fitted and this is the primary reason for the vehicle's high performance.

An optional quick charger is expected at an added cost of 16,500 Pounds and this reduces the charging time to a bare 30 minutes. The Weissach package available as an optional package reduces the total weight of the vehicle by 35 kg and the vehicle is expected to have a lap time of 7 minutes 14 seconds at the Nürburgring track.

This is 2 seconds faster than the previous generation Porsche 918 and the Weissach enabled vehicles cost an additional 58,000 Pounds more than the standard models of the vehicles. The chassis of the Spider is made of aluminum and carbon fiber with the occasional usage of titanium parts for the engine. This is the major reason for the increase in cost of the vehicle. The alloyed sports wheels reduce the weight of the vehicle by 14 percent and the external design helps the vehicle increase acceleration.

The Spider has spent close to 1000 hours in the wind tunnel and the present ergonomics is the result of this activity. The vehicle has also been equipped with luxury features such as a leather covering, fully equipped glove box, audio system and climate control along with an air condition system etc.
