Suzuki Unveils the Swift 4 x 4 SZR
|   Wednesday, August 07, 2013
The latest face lifted Swift has finally arrived across showrooms. Suzuki planned on a lot of minor improvements before finalizing this vehicle and all the minor details have turned out to be successful enough. The new Swift features new exterior, interior and performance upgrades and these enhance the general aesthetics of the vehicle. Even though the changes are not top end, they get the job done.

A five door version of the Swift Sport is now available and this is available with a 1.
liter and 1.3 liter engine option. The engine is also cleaner and this makes it pocket friendly. The SZ4 trim is also one of the best available and the all new 4 x 4 platform is also well suited to the antics the Swift is capable of.

The idea of installing a 4 x 4 on the Swift was taken off the Fiat Panda 4 x 4, which seems to be doing quite well in certain markets where high traction is needed. The Panda 4 x 4 is however 50 mm higher than the standard cousin although the Swift is just 25 mm higher than its predecessor. Even though the increase in ride height should be acknowledged, the handling and overall performance is not affected much.

The boot space however remains unchanged and this is a primary advantage the Swift features. The Swift is one of the most spacious hatch backs in its class and the fact the Suzuki has managed to pull out the transformations without affecting interior space is quite unique in itself. Air conditioner, Bluetooth, USB connectivity etc are standard on the car and a range of advanced electronics are also available.

All versions of the Swift 4 x 4 are powered by a 1.2 liter four cylindered VVT engine displacing 93 BHP along with 87 ft lb of torque. The engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission system which enhances power delivery at the 4500 – 6000 RPM mark. The engine however feels completely at home even at the 3000 RPM mark and the car idles well even within city limits.

Even though the 4 x 4 technology adds about 65 kg to the ride, the weight is still manageable due to the linear power delivery from the engine. Even though minor problems may arise due to the less refinement of the engine, the car is generally smooth which is great news considering the price segment the vehicle falls in. Suzuki has however not compromised with safety features and this is always good news for the customers.

Priced at £15,739, the Suzuki Swift 4 x 4 features a top speed of 103 MPH along with fuel efficiency measuring 51.3 MPG. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible within 13.5 seconds. Even though this does not seem impressive, the car is powerful enough for most terrains and the Swift does not lack power even on freeways. With an overall weight of 1085 kg, this is one of the lightest in class and is hence most popular with the youth.
