Suzuki Baleno To Be Sold In Europe As More Spacious Swift Alternative
|   Saturday, September 05, 2015
Suzuki is a brand recognized for its know-how at city car level. Therefore, the new Suzuki Baleno is exactly what was missing: a practical city car and something roomier than the Swift model.

Suzuki fans who dreamed of a more practical alternative compared to the Swift will have reasons to rejoice starting this fall. The Japanese brand has officially confirmed through a profile photo a new model that will appear in the range. It will be called Suzuki Baleno and will fill the void left by the disappearance of the Splash, a model built on the same platform as the Opel Agila.
In the meantime, the Japanese have abandoned this model because of poor sales.

Suzuki understood that the European market has much potential in the compact and subcompact segment. That is why it intends to increase the offer on the Old Continent. Thus, the newest member of the Japanese range in Europe called Baleno basically appeared.

Suzuki plans to make from Baleno a global model sold on other continents toom not just in Japan. Presented as a roomier alternative to the current Swift, the best-selling model of the manufacturer in the European region, the new Baleno will provide interior space for five passengers and will guarantee a much larger trunk.
The model will walk in the footsteps of the old MPV Suzuki Splash, and will be a budget alternative to the current Swift. Ready to launch in the first half of 2016, the new Suzuki Baleno will be the first model that brings the new one-liter turbo engine with direct injection. It is also be the first clear evidence that even those at Suzuki are joining the downsizing trend.

Using a name that has made a career on the subcompact hatchback sold between 1995 and 2001, Baleno will try to steal customers of popular models like the Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i20 and Kia Rio. Its advantages will be "bold design, innovative technologies and inner space" according to an official statement.

The new Suzuki Baleno will officially debut on September 15 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Note that Baleno's lines are not any absolute novelty. These were already announced by the IK-2 concept, which the Japanese brand introduced in March this year at the previous major auto show in Europe at Geneva.
Suzuki Baleno's absolute novelty will likely be the 1.0 liter turbo engine called Boosterjet, and even that was announced on the concept version of the Japanese model.

As mentioned, even the name was previously used. Suzuki wanted to resurrect a name used for a compact car built between 1995 and 2007. The car was sold under that name in Asia, Australia, and Europe. In Japan, the model was known as Cultus Crescent (later just Cultus). In North America it has been marketed under the Esteem name. In some markets, it was even sold with Maruti and Chevrolet badges.

There isn't much official information about the Baleno, but we do know the car will be built on a completely new platform developed by Suzuki. This platform forms the basis of a model explosion in the brand range: six new cars by 2017.
