Subaru Unveils Its Off-Road Monster - the Outback - at the New York Motor Show
|   Monday, April 21, 2014
Subaru has just unveiled their Outback SUV at the New York Motor Show and this rugged vehicle is based on their Legacy saloon, which was showcased earlier this year at Chicago. Subaru claims to have increased ground clearance by 22 cm, which is a lot, considering its overall dimensions. Exterior modifications also include a low step design, which eases and exit. Interior arrangement improves luggage and passenger storing capacity that makes this vehicle suitable for long drives.

Subaru is initially expected to launch this vehicle solely in America, although we could be seeing a launch in Europe quite soon. Details are yet to be announced however. The variant showcased at New York, was powered by a four cylindered 2.5 liter, petrol engine, displacing 175 BHP. A higher placed 3.6 liter petrol engine, displacing 256 BHP is also on the cards, along with a diesel powered 2.0 liter 148 BHP displacing variant.

If Subaru does announce a variant for the United Kingdom, we believe its diesel variant is best suited to market conditions here. Suspension and chassis has been fine tuned for better performance, while quicker gear shift ratios enhance the general drive feel. Safety features have been enhanced, which makes the Outback a more desired vehicle among owners and drivers.

All engine options are mated to a six speed CVT transmission system and are based on an all wheel drive train. Larger disks with vents are currently in place, enhancing braking, while Blind Spot Warning, rear cross traffic alert and lane departure warning are provided as standard on all variants. Subaru is also offering its advanced Eye Sight Driver assist system, which used camera and stereo options, along with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and pre collision warning.

Full UK specifications are expected by year end 2014 and we will get back to you with additional details, as soon as Subaru makes a formal announcement. Minor interior details has been revealed and even though it does not set any hearts racing, is complete enough to be called high tech. A small screen has been added to the center of its dash board, along with a properly placed instrument cluster.

Bluetooth connectivity, iPod connectivity and rear parking cameras are provided as standard, although we wish for an upgraded infotainment system on board. In addition to these features, Subaru has also incorporated hill descent control and XMode system, designed to help drives maneuver through tricky or steep surfaces. Traction control has improved manifold, which has a lot to do with the new improved chassis.

All wheel drive and the new CVT transmission work together in perfect coordination. We were looking for a touch SUV to head off road, for a while now and Subaru is offering just that on this vehicle. The New York Motor Show has quite a few interesting launches within the next few days and we plan on getting them to you at the earliest. Stay tuned and come back soon for latest news, details and updates.
