Subaru Manages to Impress Global Customers with the XV Hybrid
|   Wednesday, December 18, 2013
Subaru has finally ventured into hybrid production vehicles and its XV is the first Hybrid vehicle to have hit roads across Japan earlier his week. Although much have been written about this vehicle, we take the XV for a spin around local roads in the UK to see if it has what it takes to strike big. Subaru has originally taken its XV Crossover and fitted it with an electric motor along with advanced CVT transmission from Lineartronic.

A battery pack sits at the rear boot space of this vehicle, beneath its boot floor and if you are looking for a hybrid badge you will be disappointed as this is a standard production model vehicle.
Luggage space is similar to its Crossover cousin although it is sufficient enough to get the job done. Subaru however is offering a plasma green color scheme on its XV Hybrid only to distinguish it from other vehicles, although it is not expected to make a mark in American and European car markets.

Subaru has installed its iconic turbocharged 2.0 liter flat four engine displacing 148 BHP, mated to a six speed Linetronic CVT transmission system with automatic and manual supports. Subaru is also offering its iconic Symmetrical 4WD train on this vehicle which is bound to offer this vehicle an enhanced appeal in home markets. The XV returns 54 MPG while displacing 148 BHP. Japan has stricter fuel efficiency and environment friendly norms; hence vehicles there are more eco friendly.

Subaru maintains its iconic whirring sound on this vehicle while it is perfect for use in urban conditions. Considering the company's rich heritage of heading off road; this vehicle sports similar genetics. However, it is not a WRX therefore travelling off road is not encouraged. It can be used for cruising long distances in comfort however. Stop / start technology is present which aids fuel economy while a top speed of 20 MPH is claimed on battery support.

This electric vehicle is surprisingly refined even by Subaru standards although it is a little heavy considering its extra battery package on the rear. This however is not cause for concern as users will not be using it for performance or sports related issues. A top speed of 120 MPH along with acceleration times from 0 – 60 MPH equaling 9.0 seconds flat, it is not your general electric vehicle, although it is not as fast as a Tesla. Different suspensions mode help maintain body balance while increased ground clearance also helps. Clear energy flow between battery setup and vehicle is helpful while proper refinement is guaranteed at all quarters.

A hybrid is more economical than a complete electric vehicle as they do have their perks. Subaru however is not currently offering this vehicle in Europe or America. Hence, if you are not a Japanese resident, you are unlikely to get your hands on one of these cars anytime soon. We however believe that Subaru will be bringing this car to foreign soil although the company chooses to remain mute for now.
