Subaru Forester Proves to be a Delightful Drive
|   Thursday, June 13, 2013
Subaru's typical boxy design has many people loathing about their cars. However, when it comes to practicality, there are a handful of other companies which are capable of providing better overall stats as compared to Subaru. You can take the Subaru Forester for example. This vehicle has a very square shaped design and is certainly ugly. It has a flat nose typically Subaru which gives the vehicle a grumpy feel.

Subaru claims that the A pillars have been moved to offer more head and leg room for the customers.
The Forester is in fact the most spacious in its segment. The suspension has been cut down and this decreases the ride height. A sleek spoiler has been added to give the vehicle a sleek and compact feel although that is a hard feeling to come by. The Forester shares its platform with other models from Subaru although it handles better than most of its rivals and cousins owing to the Macpherson strut suspension.

The Forester is powered by a 2.0 liter petrol engine displacing 148 BHP which incidentally proves to be 15 percent more fuel efficient than its predecessors. However, Subaru plans on introducing a 2.0 liter diesel unit displacing 145 BHP, exclusively for Europe. The Forester is based on a four wheel drive platform and this enables people to shift between all wheel drive and rear wheel drive as and when required.

The amount of power to be distributed depends upon the need and the terrain and the Subaru Forester is one of the most potent off road SUVs on the road today. All engine options are mated to a singular six speed manual transmission system which maintains 50: 50 power ratios when treading on normal conditions. An updated Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission system is an available option.

The interior is quite spacious and comfortable and is a nice place to stay as compared to the cabins of other SUVs in this range. The Forester sports a large airy cabin with equally large windows and a big retractable roof line. Subaru in fact modified the car in such a way that it ends up storing the maximum space in its segment. The Forester draws power from a 2.0 liter diesel engine which is incidentally put in the range topping version. An alternate 2.0 liter turbo charged petrol engine is also available.
The boxer diesel engine powering Subaru however is quite refined and the decibel meter found that this was a few decibels quieter than its predecessor.

The engine red lines at 3500 RPM which maximum power is obtained at the 1600 RPM mark. The handling has seen considerable modification and enhancement as well while the roll cage has been inserted horizontally, saving up on space. However, this car is quite tall and that is a negative aspect, especially since presence of excessive body roll destroys a peaceful driving experience. However, the balance is pretty amazing and that is what stops this vehicle from virtually turning turtle. The Subaru Forester is currently available across showrooms.
