Study: Nine car brands are among the most green brands in 2013 with Toyota leading

This year again the company Interbrand has published a ranking of the greenest 50 brands worldwide. Nine car brands are included in the top that Toyota has been running for three years.

Interbrand, the global leader in specialized brand consulting, has drawn up a list of the greenest brands in the world this year too. They were brought together in a top named Best Global Green Brands, dominated this year by large automotive companies.

Like last year, Toyota stood on the first position, followed closely by Ford and Honda.
Occupying the first three positions of the car brands is somewhat normal. This is because, in recent times, the builders have done serious efforts in order to comply with the emission standards. The top 10 was completed by other automobile brands such as Nissan and Volkswagen. BMW has also made it in the top 50, but is only ranked 13th. After it, in the 17th position are the guys from Mercedes. Hyundai suffered from last year, reaching the 34th place, but the Koreans enjoy the presence of another brand, Kia, a premiere in the top made by Interbrand.

Although the majority of manufacturers have invested heavily in the reduction of pollution, the most popular brands enjoy this notoriety because they released completely new products such as the Prius range in the case of Toyota, or Ecoboost engines in the case for Ford. They received much more recognition from the public. This recognition is becoming increasingly important in a study that will balance the company's efforts in protecting the environment and public projected image.

Interbrand examines the difference between the "green" efforts of the company, and the consumer perception, using information provided by the people at Deloitte. The public perception is analyzed with the help of market research conducted by Interbrand.

Toyota has positioned itself on the first place because it sold in the past year nearly 2.9 million Prius hybrid in the world alone. Toyota is also exploring the future by building a low carbon community called Toyota Ecoful Town in Toyota City, Japan. Going from reducing greenhouse gas emissions to utilizing reusable metal containers for various needs, Toyota is a prime example of what can result when a company gazes into the future and makes sustainability an important part of its long-term strategy.

Nissan was noted that the car manufacturer with the best growth in the study and it climbed up 16 positions, reaching 5th place. This performance was substantial, and possible thanks to the 50,000 Leaf units sold so far.
The Leaf is the most bought electric model in history. Moreover, Nissan promises to reduce the weight of its vehicles by 50 percent by 2017 and together with Ford and Daimler will grow a line of vehicles powered by hydrogen.

"What makes the annual Best Global Green Brands report unique and valuable is that it examines performance and perception in action," stated Jez Frampton, Global Chief Executive Officer of Interbrand. "The report provides leading brands with the insights they need to develop robust strategies—strategies that will not only drive their businesses forward, but also have a positive impact on the environment and communities in which those businesses operate."
