Start-up Renovo Shows Off Electric Supercar as Debut Expected Soon

It looks as if there will be another player in the electric supercar wars, Renovo.
The start-up recently discussed its plans and they make sense. They are taking a low-key, minimalist approach, focusing on the hardware and software engineering needed to make their vehicles super quick.

Just how quick will the Renovo be? Using a Shelby body and chassis as a shell, the Renovo crew built a 30 KW electric vehicle that can hit 60 from a standing start in 3.
seconds. The Renovo crew has used some interesting battery placement techniques – scattering the battery modules around the chassis in positions that will ensure a neutral weight ratio (50-50) to ensure the wheels receiving the power from the two electric motors to ensure the rear wheels feel the 1,000 pounds-feet of torque immediately.

From the outside, the Renovo EV supercar looks just like any other Shelby CSX9000 Daytona manufactured in Nevada. Admittedly, writes Justin Hyde, Motoramic's managing editor, the California-based startup faces a tough challenge. In the last decade alone, for example, 20 or more excited startups simply burned out and never made it to market production.

The $524,000 EV has great appeal to the supercar crowd. Having the extra resources available to lay down half-a-million dollars they have to have the patience needed to wait through the debugs and rewrites the software may need, as this is primarily a software-oriented vehicle. The same is true of any potential hardware issues.

Equally as important to its ultimate success, Renovo didn't reinvent the wheel. It found the Daytona chassis/body combination worked best with the high-torque, instant-on, dual-motor, single-axle concept. No one had to build or deliver any special chassis or body that could have delayed the project.

Heiser concluded with a comment about software and cars. Given the pressures Detroit is facing on the safety, emissions and pollution issues, it is little wonder that the future of cars is computing. That is why, he indicated, Detroit has come knocking as it looks to for the software it needs to meet those pressures.
