Spyker Revival Plan To Focus on Crossover
|   Sunday, March 10, 2013
At Geneva this year we have had the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting facts, as well as see many jaw dropping cars. Among the first category is the find made by Edmunds that the Dutch supercar specialist Spyker is planning on getting back in business. The car is not on display at the Geneva Auto Show, but it will go live next year with production being scheduled to start in 2016.

The vehicle in question is a crossover, inspired by the Spyker D8 Paris-to-Peking concept first revealed as the Spyker D8 at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show.
It would the beginning of the resurrection of the supercar maker. Naturally, the production version will not be as extravagant as the concept, thus keeping with the dubious tradition of making concept cars shine more brightly than the production versions.

Well, there is some time before they can see that dream come true. Until then, we can enjoy the Spyker B6 Venator Concept that is on display at Geneva. Supposedly, it will go toe-to-toe with the Porsche 911. Spyker wants the B6 Venator to be affordable, relatively speaking, stating it will have "a more accessible price point of approximately 125,000 dollars to 150,000 dollars" when it goes on sale. The B6 Venator will reach the U.S. in spring 2014.

Powered by a V6 engine delivering 375 horsepower, it sends that power to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. The Venator uses a carbon-fiber body and an all-aluminum chassis, while riding on a 98.4-inch wheelbase. Weight stands at 3,086 pounds.

A lot of inspiration was taken from aircraft, as the glass aircraft-style canopy indicates, along with the 3D LED rear lights taken after the burners of a jet engine plus a dashboard that lights up. The name itself means "Hunter" in Latin, but it is also a reference to the company's Hunter fighter aircraft from the early parts of the 20th century.

The bigger plan of rejuvenating the company revolves around the upcoming crossover, the B6 Venator, and the elder and more expensive Spyker C8 Aileron tagged at 245,000 dollars. Spyker's plans are really big. They want to reach a number of 2,500 produced cars per year when the crossover and Venator hit the market. That will be an arduous task, especially since the number of Aileron models sold since its introduction in 2009 is only 300.

The first step for reaching the proposed goal is the B6 Venator. The vehicle aims to give Spyker customers a more affordable alternative. Furthermore, this will also impact favorably the suppliers and dealers; if all goes well then custom component development will be more economically attractive.

After the close encounter with bankruptcy due to its ownership by Saab and the declining general economic conditions, the company is ready to take off again. Spyker boss Victor Muller is now fully committed to save the company, and eagerly awaits to put the 10 million dollars received from the Chinese at Youngman to good use.
