Spyker Crossover Confirmed - V12 Engine And Electric Version Upcoming
|   Sunday, May 15, 2016
The Dutch-American company Spyker presented their concept called D8 Peking-to-Paris at the Geneva Motor Show 2006 and now it seems that finally it is ready for launch. The official information released by Spyker confirmed the rumors appeared in the press these days.

Ready for an official debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Spyker crossover will be powered by a V12 engine. Spyker CEO Victor Muller did not release any more details about this engine, preferring perhaps to wait until the official release.

However, he said the engine will be developed by a European manufacturer, but gave no names. The buyers who are looking for something environmentally friendly will be delighted to discover that the model from Spyker will also provide an electric propulsion system, which is really gratifying decision.

This special version will be revealed most likely in 2017 and will benefit from the partnership that Spyker has with Volta Volare, which is known world-wide for producing efficient aircraft with the best performance.

No other details are known about the electrical system which will be available on the new car, but Victor Muller suggested that the model will lose the lithium-ion batteries, because he feels that they are not efficient in terms of costs and often suffer from degradation problems.

What Spyker representative say sounds extremely good and well, but can an electric car without lithium-ion batteries lead to the success which those from Spyker desire? Time will tell.

Despite confirmation about plans for an electric version, Victor Muller however, downplayed the eventual production of plug-in hybrid cars. As he explained, even the best plug-in hybrid cars are "super complicated" and are really a huge nightmare to put together. Muller went even further, and said that Spyker has high hopes for the unnamed crossover yet.

So putting the D8 Peking-to-Paris in production will accomplish that as soon as possible. We shouldn't forget that already it's been 10 years since word of this model got out and in that time the market saw a lot of other luxury cars that offer breathtaking performance.
Spyker does not want to compete with the mass production rivals, such as BMW and Tesla, instead they want to focus on keeping the numbers down and focus on developing new technology.

"We don't want to be in competition with BMW and Tesla; we wouldn't have the means to do so. But what we can do is develop technology that will make its way into more mainstream vehicles later."

"Take Koenigsegg for example: it can compete with Bugatti, which is owned by the VW Group. I'm very excited by the way small, boutique manufacturers like us can give the big boys a run for their money as low-volume car makers."

Spyker revealed the new C8 Preliator at this year's Geneva motor show. That car is set in motions by a supercharged 4.2-litre V8 unit that produces 518 hp and 600 Nm of torque and comes with either a manual or automatic gearbox.
