Spy pictures of the 2013 Skoda Octavia leaked

Skoda plans to launch the third generation Skoda Octavia at the Geneva Motor Show 2013 and the vehicle has been spied testing ahead of the event in March. The Octavia is set to be the first vehicle from Skoda to feature the MQB platform used on the Seat Leon, Audi A3 and the Volkswagen Golf.

The Skoda Octavia will however be based on an extended wheelbase based on the MQB platform and hence although the basic mechanism will be the same, the vehicles will sport their separate identities.
The Skoda Octavia will be close to 4.8 meters and this is the longest Octavia ever produced.
Skoda is redesigning the Octavia and giving it a longer wheelbase so that new Rapid from Skoda – which has the same platform as the current Octavia – gets a room of its own in this segment. The Octavia has been the best in class and the Rapid is here to take its place. Therefore this minor modification was necessary in order to give the Rapid a chance in this segment.

The increase in the wheel base means and increases in space and subsequently an increase in the price. Although the Octavia will provide better space than all the other vehicles in the segment, like the Volkswagen Golf. The Octavia will provide complete value for money and with the increase in space the Octavia is set to offer a plush interior. These will justify the increase in price and will subsequently decrease the performing ability of the vehicle by a small margin.

The new Octavia, although a sedan, will feature the layout of an oversized hatch back and this is completely different from rumors that the vehicle will sport a rear end lifted directly off the Superb. The boot space has also been increased and overall, the third generation Octavia is set to be bigger and better in all aspects.

However, the MQB platform does hint towards a considerable decrease in the overall weight even though the vehicle features a larger wheel base. The drive train will feature minor modifications and the vehicle is said to be powered by the 1.4 liter petrol TSI engine. Producing 138 BHP and the 1.6 liter diesel TDI engine producing 104 BHP.

Skoda has also hinted towards a 220 BHP producing 2.0 liter vRS engine and if true, this vehicle could be showcased at the Good Wood Festival of Speed 2013. Skoda has also confirmed its plans on launching a seven seated SUV in the near future and the company is quite excited about this project. Skoda is a brand name synonymous with luxury vehicles and an MPV did gel in well with customers. Therefore, there is no reason why an SUV should not be launched.

These are a few very lofty plans and as always, customers expect a lot from Skoda and it is unlikely that the car maker will disappoint. As far as the upcoming models are concerned Skoda is quite confident and this is all the confirmation that customers want.
