Spy Images of the Toyota Aygo Leaked Prior to Official Reveal at Geneva
|   Wednesday, March 05, 2014
Leaked images of Toyota's next generation city car – the Aygo – have surfaced. This vehicle has been co-developed along with Citroen and Peugeot and will be launched under different nameplates too. We were expecting an official reveal at Geneva, although these spy shots give us detailed description of the Aygo. Toyota has installed a larger grille on this vehicle, with large badges also in place.

Round fog lamps have been added to the bottom of its front bumper, while Daytime Running Lamps are in place.
This vehicle has a unique exterior design, which should appeal to potential customers. This vehicle also has a strong character, similar to the latest Mini and Fiat 500. Even though a five door model is set to be previewed, we hear reports of a three door variant too.

Rumors of a retractable roof – similar to the one seen on C1 and 108 models – are currently doing the rounds, although we are not expecting a Geneva launch. Toyota needs to drastically improve its interior features and trim levels, in order to compete with prominent rivals in class. Volkswagen's Up is a strong contender in class, with standard equipment, performance and comfort levels.

Renault also plans on launching the new Twingo this week at Geneva. Hence, the competition is all set to heat up. Toyota has promised an integrated entertainment device in this vehicle, while standard electronic features such as Satellite Navigation, USB and Bluetooth connectivity are present. This is a very energetic segment hence Toyota needs to come up with something brilliant in order to grab sales.

However, their new partnership will be important on the long run, as it saves up on valuable time and resources needed to develop separate platforms for a single class. This will also help bring together, the best of Japanese and European technologies. We need to get behind the wheel of this vehicle to come up with a complete review, although we have done our best to explain to you the basics.

We are yet to receive official word on mechanical components and performance figures, although a new engine lineup is expected. Toyota will be manufacturing this vehicle, exclusively in Citroen's home town – the Czech Republic – although we are not aware of target markets. A European launch is inevitable, while there are high chances of this vehicle making it to Asian markets too.

Individual styling elements are to be added to each vehicle to visually distinguish them from one another. This is an important step as Citroen and Peugeot will be launching their versions of the Aygo. Toyota also plans on showcasing a Hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle at Geneva this year.

Engineers at Toyota have been working on this technology for quite some time now. Hence, there are high expectations from this power house. We are yet to know much about this vehicle, known as the FCV. We plan on getting back to you with confirmed reports soon. Hence, come back soon as we get you the latest from Toyota.
