Spy Images of The Next Generation Porsche Cayman R Spotted
|   Wednesday, May 21, 2014
Porsche is known to be working on a high performance variant of their Cayman currently which could sport the Cayman R badge. This is however a minor speculation at this moment, while we expect confirmed news within the next few months. The early test mule, which was spotted at Nürburgring, sports heavy camouflage, which makes it quite difficult to understand this vehicle's exterior design structure.

We are however aware of a new front splitter, larger air intake ducts and redesigned front and rear bumper, over the camouflage.
New performance brakes were seen on this prototype, although its presence on the production model is yet to be affirmed. Proportion wise, this vehicle is quite similar to their 911 GT3, raising hopes of performance along similar lines. The Cayman R is also visibly lower than its predecessor, which should give it a distinct performance advantage around a track.

We expect this vehicle to be lighter than its present generation model, featuring a stripped out interior too! Trim levels are yet to be confirmed, along with major performance boost, as power could be drawn from a flat six cylindered 3.8 liter engine, which can also be found on the 911 Carrera S. However, the Carrera S is a sportier vehicle and displaces 400 BHP. The Cayman R will be tuned to displace lesser amounts of power, ensuring higher fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions as well.

The Carrera S accelerates from 0 – 60 MPH within 4.6 seconds and is capable of reaching top speeds of 188 MPH. Despite being powered by a less powerful engine, the Cayman S accelerates in 4.9 seconds. This is due to its advanced power to weight ratio. The Cayman's engine is mated to a dual clutch PDK automatic transmission system.

This ensures maximum productivity and proper displacement. We have insider rumors that Porsche is currently considering a hotter variant in their Cayman lineup. We hope that this is a Cayman GT3, although Porsche is yet to officially affirm news. However, a faction believes that Porsche will reserve the GT3 badge, exclusively for their 911 Series.

The last generation Cayman R was sent out of production back in 2012, although it was one of the most popular Coupes on its time. Porsche promised to return with an updated variant and this is exactly what we have right now. This test mule is currently in its nascent stages, hence, we do not expect Porsche to be ready with a production variant anytime before end 2015. However, the firm has surprised us in the past, hence, we will not take responsibility, if they plan on showcasing a production model, anytime before our speculated date!

However, we do hope that happens, as performance aspects on this vehicle, are expected to be quite different from what we last experienced on their 2012 model. We will come back with a comprehensive drive test review at the earliest. Hence, stay tuned or come back soon, for latest news, updates and reports regarding Porsche's plans for the future!
