Spy Images of the Land Rover baby Discovery Emerge from Nurburgring

The latest vehicle in the Land Rover family – the replacement model for the Freelander 2 – has been spotted, testing at Nurburgring. This car is currently in its late designing phase and Land Rover is taking special care to ensure that it manages to stay afloat considering its Freelander status. The engine powering this vehicle is expected to be a new one and had been seen testing in the body of an Evoque on previous occasions.

However, the latest camouflaged body of the Freelander 2 has been revealed although its similarities with the Evoque are evident.
The basic dimensions of this vehicle however are different from that of an Evoque while an additional suspension and components have also been installed. This vehicle was previously spotted testing in low temperature areas to check efficiency and control and the engineers are happy with the results.

Currently tagged the baby Discovery, this vehicle is set to replace the current model of the Freelander. The Freelander is incidentally the best selling model from Jaguar Land Rover. The Freelander 2 was introduced back in 2006 and instead of making minor cosmetic changes to the vehicle this year the company wants to replace it with a completely new product. The baby Discovery could be available at showrooms late 2015 and is set to enter production by late 2014.

This vehicle is an overall better package, with better performance, better quality of parts and better finish. The boot space has also been increased although the underpinnings of this vehicle are similar to that of the Evoque. The LR MS platform on which the baby Discovery is based is roughly based on the EUCD platform designed by Ford although Land Rover claims that close to 90 percent of the parts are genuine and new.

Land Rover says that this vehicle will be composed of a variety of materials while different sections of the body will feature parts composed of different materials. The lower part of the body will be composed of high tensile steel while aluminum and carbon fiber will also be used to design this car. Land Rover is quite skeptical about the design and they plan on getting things perfect. Although the mechanical components have not been specified, experts believe that the all new four cylindered, Hot Fire range of engine will be powering the baby Discovery.

Land Rover also claims that this is part of a range of super cheap engines which are as fuel efficient as environment friendly. Although official road tests are yet to be performed, Land Rover claims that every engine in the lineup is capable of performing what the company claims. Although all wheel drive will be present on ever unit, a front wheel drive vehicle will be available at the entry level. Land Rover also claims that the average CO2 emission will be close to 119 g/km, which is surprisingly low for a vehicle such as an SUV. Needless to say, the baby Discovery is one of the highly anticipated vehicles of the decade.
