|   Monday, July 15, 2013
Spy images of the latest Mini Cooper S has been revealed prior to its official unveil this November. This is the third generation hatch back from Mini and is expected to be revealed either at the Tokyo Motor Show or the Los Angeles Motor Show while experts also claim that the Mini Cooper S could be showcased at both these events. The vehicle was last spotted undergoing tests at the Nurburgring track in Germany.

Although most of the features of the previous generation Mini are expected to continue on this model, The Mini Cooper S also features some distinctly new features such as the non functional bonnet scoop.
Larger alloyed wheels, centrally placed twin exhaus6t pipes and a rear spoiler have also been added to the car. Initial pictures reveal that the Mini Cooper S is slightly larger than the other cousins of the Mini family.

The three door structure, larger grille and side panels also enhance the look of the Cooper S while a five door version is soon expected to hit markets. Customers in Europe and America may look forward to a saloon and Mini is considering designing a saloon based on the same platform. The interior has been massively upgraded too although it retains the large dash board mounted screen which is now used as an infotainment device.

The speedometer is centrally mounted while additional instruments are added in the cluster. The steering column is well balanced and this induces stability to the car. The range of electronic measures such as Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control etc have been added to enhance the drive feel of the vehicle while turning off these controls show exactly how beneficial they are on road.

The Mini Cooper S is fun to drive on road and unlike any of its predecessors body roll has been minimized by quite a bit. This instills confidence into the driver and encourages him to go fast. The new disk brakes also work significantly well and stop the car well within the safe zone. The Mini Cooper S is based on the revolutionary UKL1 platform from BMW and features a front wheel drive train.

Mini claims that BMW will be developing 20 new vehicles on this platform while the engine options available on this range are completely new. The Mini Cooper S draws power from a 1.5 liter turbo charged petrol engine displacing 180 BHP along with the top of the line JCW engine displacing 230 BHP. A six speed transmission system is available as standard on the Mini Cooper S although both manual and automatic options will be available.
These are trying times for Mini and BMW and the Cooper S does a decent job of refreshing the segment. The S brings in new technology and engineering measures to the segment which are likely to be used in future generation vehicles from BMW as well. Details of the interior and general ergonomics are yet to be unveiled and the price announcement is also highly anticipated.
