|   Wednesday, June 19, 2013
The initial batch of spy images of the latest BMW 4 Series testing was unveiled back in December 2012. Therefore, it seems like an eternity since BMW decided on revealing the all new BMW 4 Series. The Frankfurt Motor Show has been chosen as the platform for the launch and this is a very important moment for the company as the 4 Series is set to be an iconic batch from BMW.

The new 4 Series is longer, wider and shorter than its predecessor and this makes it more spacious while enabling better performance and handling.
The new 4 Series resembles the 3 Series vehicles for the obvious reason that they will be replacing the BMW 3 Series. The 4 Series currently has the lowest centre of gravity as compared to any vehicle from BMW at the moment although BMW has not revealed the official figure as of yet.

The BMW 4 Series xDrive features an additional Right Hand Drive train for the European market and this is seen as a blessing as earlier BMWs came out with Left Hand Drive trains initially. The BMW 4 Series is rumored to be based on the needs of the European and the Chinese market although the company has neither accepted nor disowned these claims.

BMW plans on launching the 420i, 420d and the 435d initially and every model will feature the advanced BMW xDrive technology. Every engine option will be turbo charged and this means more power for the range of sedans. The 430d and 435d will feature a six speed automatic transmission system mated to the engine and standard six cylinder diesel and petrol drive trains will be on offer.

Every automatic transmission enabled vehicle will feature an Active Launch Control and this is a welcome addition on the ride. Fuel economy is set to increase while CO2 emission in on the verge of reduction. The BMW 420d is expected to be the best selling model among the lot owing to its comparative less price as well as better fuel efficiency. Average CO2 emission has been reduce to 120 g/km and the 420d takes an approximate 7.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 – 60 MPH.

The 4 Series also features a list of drive train options ranging from the top end M Sport, Luxury, Modern, Sport and the base SE. BMW xDrive Active Performance Control is a standard feature on every model. The dampers and suspension setting on the vehicle is completely new and this enhances comfort as well as performance. Power is distributed in the ratio 60: 40 to the rear and front wheels respectively and this makes it a rear wheel based all wheel drive vehicle.

Power distribution can be enhanced according to the needs of the driver and the steering column is well placed which makes it easy to handle the vehicle. The BMW xDrive is very important and a versatile software and has a variety of purposes. The 4 Series is expected to be highly successful owing to its versatile engineering.
