Spaniard Fernando Alonso rocked the Spanish grand prix
|   Saturday, May 18, 2013
It was a tough day at the office on Saturday as the leaders of the ongoing formula one season Vettel did not make it to the pole position in the qualifying stage. It was hard going for the racers. The track was a big track and a lot depended on the skills and tyre strategy of the racers. Vettel and Raikkonen who are known to me masters of the tyre strategy did well but had issues with the speed of the cars.

Raikkonen started at a better position from the others.
The front row consisting of the Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton did not look the best. Both the Mercedes racers were found wanting for pace to compete in the Spanish grand prix. Both of them struggled on the opening laps of the race. It looked as if Vettel was going to steal the show once again as he crossed the front row to take lead in the race.

Fernando Alonso who did not have the best qualifying rounds started from 6th on the grid, after a few laps he went pass the inside edge of Raikkonen and Hamilton to move ahead steeply. On the first pit stop he stormed pass leader Vettel and then eventually tracked down Rosberg who was not the best on the day.

Alonso had a four pit strategy and that worked perfectly in his favour. Even Vettel had the same tyre strategy but the pace of the Ferrari was too much for the red bulls to handle. Kimi Raikkonen who had a three pit strategy looked very challenging throughout the race. Eventually he had to make way for Alonso's Ferrari who had a fresh tyre in the later stages of the race.

Vettel was not happy with the four pit strategy as he lost ground quickly. After taking the lead of the race Alonso gathered enough paces to make sure that he had the race under control till the end. Vettel lost his position to Kimi Raikkonen and later the other Ferrari with Felipe Massa also went passed Vettel leaving him out of the Podium.

With Vettel finishing fourth and his rivals Alonso winning the race followed by Raikkonen in second place the season has become more interesting now. It could be anyone's championship from here on. For team Ferrari the icing on the cake came when Massa finished in 3rd place to give the team great deal of maker's points. This was a great day for the Ferrari team.

On the other hand the Force India team impressed again with a seventh position by Paul Di Resta. The other teams like the McLaren and Mercedes had a lot to think about as they are losing grip on the championship at a rapid pace. If this continues then it will be a very easy season for the leaders like Vettel and Raikkonen and the Ferrari team. Stay tuned for more updates as the season unfolds ahead.
