Some Auto Companies Logos and Their Interesting Origins
|   Tuesday, November 08, 2016
Every car enthusiast easily recognizes the logo on the back and front of most vehicles, but does everyone know the story behind these emblems? A logo must be iconic, synonymous with a company's brand and inspire confidence in a product.
A good logo for auto companies should do all these things at the same time, but should also emanate power, reliability and prestige.

BMW
BMW used to make airplanes and paint them in white and blue. The logo reflects the image of a white propeller that rotates over the blue sky.

In 2010, BMW company representatives explained in a press release the history of their emblem, and stated that this is a transposition of colors from the traditional region of Bavaria and that the logo is part of Germany’s flag region.

Volvo
Volvo as a word closely resembles the Spanish word meaning “to run” and symbolizes Volvo desire to make transport easier.
The company logo, a circle with an arrow that is pointing upwards, is an ancient chemical symbol for iron. It is one of the oldest ideograms in Western culture and is intended to describe a modern design.

Audi
Audi’s logo is one of the simplest, and reflects the four producers in the Auto Union and signals Audi’s brand association with Horch, DKW and Wanderer. The left ring represents Audi, DKW is next, third is Horch, and Wanderer fourth.
Audi’s logo kinship with the Olympic logo caused a scandal during which the World Olympic Committee sued the German manufacturer, but the trial was completed with a success for Audi.

Mazda
Mazda is a brand obsessed by symbolism. The company name comes from Ahura Mazda, the god of wisdom, intelligence and harmony in ancient Asian civilization. The name comes also from its founder, Jujiro Matsuda.
The company's current logo was introduced in 1998 and is, according to Mazda, the stylized letter M, which evokes the image of flying wings and symbolizes Mazda flight into the future.
The letter V in the center of the letter M represents creativity, vitality, flexibility and Mazda’s passion, and the entire symbol expresses the solid feeling that Mazda offers to all its products. Dynamic circle symbolizes the company's willingness to stretch their wings.

Lamborghini
This is one of the simplest logos. Ferrucio Lamborghini loved bullfighting, and was a Taurus too, so almost all cars has been named after breeds of bulls.

Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz aims for easy transport on land, water or air and the three-pointed star sets to evoke exactly that.

Porsche
Porsche logo embodies the colors of the German flag, the city name where its headquarters is (Stuttgart) and an image of one horse to inspire strength and speed.
The horse is, as explained by German manufacturer, a symbol of Stuttgart because legend says that Stuttgart was built on the site of a horse farm.

Subaru
The six stars of the Subaru logo is a reference to the Pleiades. These stars are in the Taurus constellation. Taurus is the Japanese name of Subaru. In addition, these stars represent the six companies that have joined to create Fuji Heavy Industries.

Mitsubishi
The Mitsubishi logo is used from 1870 and comes from the Yataro Iwasaki family crest, the founder of the shipping company Tsukumo Shokai, and the Yamanouchi family crest of the Tosa Clan. Mitsu means in Japanese three and hisi means rhomb or diamond shaped.

Alfa Romeo
The Alfa Romeo emblem is probably the most interesting. The city of Milano is represented on the logo, by the red-cross, and the snake is a symbol of a legend that says a nobleman named Otone Visconti fought against a Saracen knight and killed him. Otone took the knight symbol on the shield and it has turned into the emblem of Alfa Romeo.
