Skoda Confirms Plan to Launch an SUV by 2016
|   Friday, December 27, 2013
Skoda Chief Winfried Vahland has recently announced plans to launch a new SUV for an early 2016 launch. This vehicle will be based on the Volkswagen Group's latest MQB platform and will draw engineering and designing cues from the current generation Cross Blue. Skoda however claims that this vehicle will have its own identity even though specifications and other exterior / interior details are yet to be finalized.

This yet to be named vehicle from Skoda will sit at a price segment higher than Volkswagen's Tiguan and should be larger than it in terms of base dimensions.
Five seat and seven seat options are likely with front and all wheel drive train provided as optional on all variants. Skoda is looking forward to rivaling Kia's Sorento and Hyundai's Santa Fe in this class and this should be a huge brand promotion for Skoda.

According to Skoda designs revealed so far, this should be a full scale SUV although details are not available. The engineering and designing teams are working full time on this build as of now and experts are hopeful of bench mark products. Frank Welsch, Chief of Skoda Technical Design Studio, says that this vehicle is expected to draw power from a four cylindered, 2.0 liter diesel hybrid engine although a smaller 1.6 liter turbo charged diesel power train is also available.

Skoda also plans on modifying the way their vehicles look and this means that we are up for massive exterior changes. Rumor is that Skoda is working on a large, buffed up and muscular design for its vehicles while a provocative design is likely on every model. Even though this is slightly different from the mainstream vehicle designs, it should set up new dimensions which the company would implement in future models.

The Skoda Yeti is quite popular in class and hence a vehicle in this range is also being probed. The Yeti family however does not need an immediate new member. Hence, a large scale vehicle is of utmost importance at the moment. Skoda is well aware of market trends and hence they are working on expansion plans.
