Skoda Confirms Kodiaq Name For Its New 7-Seater SUV
|   Saturday, June 04, 2016
Skoda Kodiaq is the official name for the large Skoda SUV ready to debut this autumn at the Paris Motor Show.
The new large SUV from Skoda will be called Kodiaq. The name refers to the Kodiak bear, which lives on the namesake island, near the southern coast of Alaska, and the writing mode is derived from the natives - the Alutiiq people. With this new model Skoda will launch a campaign for its new car in the SUV segment, the model being presented to the public in the second half of 2016, at the Paris Motor Show.

Along with a population of about 14,000 people, Kodiak Island is a wild and fascinating landscape, located on the southern coast of Alaska (57 ° N 153 ° W) shared with about 3,500 Kodiak bears.

The native population, Alutiiq, names the bear, Taq uka 'aq - letter "q" in the end, and is characteristic of animal names. By including this letter in the name of the new large SUV, Skoda demonstrates their respect for the Alutiiq language. At the same time, the letter "q" creates a special name for the new and original Skoda model.

The Kodiaq will have much in common with the recently launched Seat Ateca and Volkswagen Tiguan, but, as we expect from the Czech manufacturer, the new SUV will be bigger than its brothers, having a length of 4.7 meters. For comparison, the Volkswagen Tiguan measures 4.49 meters and the Seat Ateca, just 4.36 meters.

While the Ateca is offered exclusively in a five-seat configuration, Skoda will provide enough space for seven people, as well as having an elongated version like the upcoming Tiguan. It is also likely that the Skoda will also have the largest load capacity, this feature being encountered on the other models in the range too.
Details about the engines were not offered but obviously it will use the same units as its brothers Tiguan and Ateca.

The base motorization will be a 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI that develops 115 hp, followed by the 1.4 TSI with 148 hp and 1.8 or 2.0TSI with 177 hp.
Diesel enthusiasts will not get any big surprises, both versions 1.6 TDI with 113 hp and the 2.0 TDI rated at 150 and 187 hp being available.
Transmission will be on the front axle, but optionally, the more powerful versions will receive all-wheel drive. Also depending on the engine, customers will be able to choose gearbox, having available both a six-speed manual transmission and a DSG with seven-speed.

Another parallel between the Kodiak bear and the new Skoda Kodiaq is the family spirit. With a height of three meters and weighing around 400 kg, males Kodiak are among the most powerful species of bears. In contrast to other species, they are sociable and live in peace.
"Discover new grounds" is the motto with which the Czech car manufacturer will launch the Skoda Kodiaq.

This model will cost between 23,000 and 24,000 euros. Skoda Kodiaq will be presented in the fall and will be available in early 2017, so you still have to wait a few months until you can bring home the Alaskan bear.
