Skoda and Nissan-Datsun Come up with Budget Hatchbacks
|   Saturday, August 10, 2013
The first official images of the Skoda Rapid Spaceback have been revealed this week just prior to its official unveil, at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. The Skoda Rapid Space back is a B Segment standard hatch back although it sports a shorter wheel base than most of the hatch backs in its class. Boot space has hence suffered considerably and the overall space has been reduced from 550 to 415 liters.

Skoda however claims that the general space inside the cabin is greater than the cabin of most of the other hatch backs in class and an additional second storage level enhances the general space inside.
The fuel filler cap also has an additional ice scrapper and this feature has been thought of especially keeping the European customers in mind.

Skoda is set to offer a range of additions to this car and specific customization options are being offered especially to encourage customers to opt for the Spaceback. Some of the customizable options include tinted windows for the younger generation along with a completely tinted glass roof. The Skoda Rapid Spaceback features draws from a range of six engine options – four petrol and two diesel options.

The 1.2 liter TSI engine is available with displacement figures of 74 BHP, 84 BHP or 104 BHP while the diesel engine lineup consists of a 1.4 liter TSI engine capable of displacing 120 BHP. Skoda is considering a low end 88 BHP displacing diesel engine for the lineup as well. The general fuel efficiency of the engines are 74.3 MPG along with 99 g/km of CO2 while sales are expected to commence in the UK fall 2014.

Nissan has officially re-launched Datsun across the globe and the first vehicle to come out of this partnership is the cross over Go. This five seated, five-door vehicle is expected to be launched in Asia initially followed by Europe. The Go draws power from a petrol powered 1.2 liter engine mated to a five speed manual transmission system. The Go has been designed on the same platform as the Nissan Micra although most of these vehicles are different.

Sporting an introductory price of £2645, the Datsun Go will be an immensely affordable ride while customization options are available for an additional £200. The vehicle will be available in Russia, Indonesia, India and South Africa initially followed by other European and American countries and the launch was highly anticipated as it is the first car to be manufactured by Datsun since the past three decades.

The Datsun Go should act as the perfect vehicle to sit between the low end vehicles from Renault and Nissan and Datsun should make a name for itself owing to the high popularity the brand had in the past. This re-launch is based on Renault's decision to go ahead with the Dacia brand, which is giving the company high sales. Datsun should do the exact same thing for Nissan. The Go should be available within the next few months and its popularity seems to be rising.
