Seat ready to roll out the face lifted Ibiza Cupra
|   Monday, February 04, 2013
The Seat Ibiza Cupra has been face lifted and his has been done accordingly to the concept design that was showcased in 2012. The Ibiza Cupra sports a new front bumper, head lamps and front grille along with an overhauled interior. On top of the face lifts, the vehicle features engine modifications aimed at improving the performance figures on the vehicle. The Ibiza Cupra accelerates from 0 to 60 MPH in 6.9 seconds, that is 0.1 seconds faster than its predecessor and the top speed has been increased to 142 MPH from 140 MPH.

The running costs have improved while the vehicle records fuel efficiency figures of 47.9 MPG. There has been an improvement of 4.2 MPG and this is a drastic improvement at this level. CO2 emission has also been reduced by 9g/km and this calls for added tax benefits for the Seat Ibiza Cupra. Seat has installed the Seat Portable Navigation system as standard on the Ibiza Cupra and the vehicle features Bluetooth connectivity along with a host of other information details.

The current version of the Ibiza Cupra is powered by a 1.4 liter twin charged engine and the face lifted version is powered by the same engine. However, the engineers have made minor modifications to the engine and this improves the throttle response time even further. The engine now feels more confident at the 2000 RPM mark and has been mated to the Volkswagen DSG, seven speed manual transmission system.

The Ibiza Cupra has always been a smooth ride and the new version is at the top for its agility. The gear change is done quickly however the DSG can auto change transmission and this means that the driver could feel a tug on the underside occasionally when two gears have shifted instead of one.
The steering rack has been enhanced and drives ergonomics wise, this vehicle feels like the Clio Renault Sport more than an Ibiza Cupra. However, there is lack in the steering potential and this is felt at all times. The rear suspension settings have been overhauled and the air strut suspension system has been re-tuned.

However, the Ibiza Cupra gradually tends to harden off the front end on sharp turns and heading into corners in speed should be strictly avoided. Seat is offering an optional AP racing brake package with the standard model on request. This improves the braking potential of the ride hence making the vehicle safer. The disc brake calipers on the Ibiza Cupra measure 312 mm whereas the standard fittings are 288 mm. Hence the stopping potential has been increased manifold.

The Ibiza Cupra is an important addition to the hot rod segment and will rival the likes of the Suzuki Swift Sport and the Clio Renault Sport. However, the Ibiza Cupra does excel is terms of ride quality, performance and overall efficiency and maintenance costs. Therefore it is a much practical choice for daily use and should work in its favor in the market. Seat has tagged the base model of the Ibiza Cupra at £18,570 and it features a top speed of 142 MPH.
