Seat Ibiza Anniversary Edition In June: 30 Years Since The First Generation's Launch
|   Friday, May 02, 2014
Seat Ibiza, the best selling model of the Spanish brand, has reached 30 years of existence. The first generation model was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show Edition 1984, and is celebrated by a special edition of the current generation.

This special edition will be launched in June and will be called "Ibiza 30 years" and will be available exclusively with a gray body and black painted wheels. The representatives of the Iberian brand gave details on its list of features.
But we can note a series of stickers that mark the fact the model is special among the current Ibiza generation, as well as a pocketknife key housing painted gray and stamped with the logo "Ibiza 30 years."

Ibiza is the first car developed by SEAT as an independent company, although it was drawn in collaboration with Italdesign, Karmann and Porsche. Since the second generation Ibiza was designed by Volkswagen Group specialists, taking components and technologies used by the corporation in question. Regardless of the generation, every time the Ibiza has been the best selling model in the SEAT range. Over four million units Seat Ibiza were sold in the 30 years of existence of the model.

In 2012, Seat sold about 320,000 units. These sales, represented nearly one-third of the number estimated by James Muir, head of the brand at the time, it would be sufficient for long-term sustainable results, both as a brand in itself and as part of the Volkswagen Group. Later, James Muir was replaced by Jurgen Stackmann, which aims to revitalize the Martorell brand. The current head of SEAT is confident in the company's chances to return to profit, even though their sales have not yet achieved their planned objectives.

During the first years, Italy, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Portugal and Mexico, plus Spain, were the most important markets for the Ibiza model. When launched, the price of the Seat Ibiza was about 825,000 pesetas (4,950 euro), which, at today's prices, would be about 15,620 euros. Back tt the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, the Seat Ibiza was the official car.

The car's second generation (1993-2002) saw a visible aesthetic change. The lines were rounded and aerodynamic, with a higher level of equipment and mechanical sophistication. The second generation Ibiza was the first model in its segment to be fitted with a TDI engine producing 90 hp.

Walter de'Silva, current head of design at the Volkswagen Group, was responsible for the third generation Ibiza (2002-2008). The new model saw another advance in production quality, engine range and dynamic performance. De'Silva brought a more attractive aesthetic point of view, underscored by agility

Luc Donckerwolke,is the one who developed the Ibiza current generation (2008-). For the first time, he introduced the "Arrow Design" for the front of the car. Because it used visible geometric lines, the result was a sportier model. Also, the fourth-generation Ibiza was the first in its segment to boast ESP (electronic stability control) as a standard feature across its range.
