SAIC launches the 2013 MG5
|   Thursday, November 08, 2012
SAIC has finished working on the all new MG 5 and the vehicle is expected to be unveiled shortly. Showcased at the Shanghai Motor Show 2011, the MG 5 was still in its proto type stages however the production model is now ready. Production models usually look different from what the actual concept models looks like. However, that is not the case with the MG 5. This vehicle closely resembles the proto type and as a result, its styling is hugely different from that of other hatch backs in the segment.

The vehicle borrows external styling features from the MG 3 and the MG 6 with the exception of the rear portion which has been totally revamped. People can call this a mismatch. However, the vehicle as a whole looks great and as a result people will need some time before they can actually accept the vehicle as it is.

However, the interior of the MG 5 is different from that of the cheeky exterior and this makes up for the aesthetic senses lost in the exterior department. The vehicle is high on quality and the parts inside do not feel like cheap plastic. The interiors on the MG 6 slightly let down the customers. However, with the launch of the MG 5, SAIC will get back its major customer base. The work done by the engineers and designers in getting the vehicle together must be appreciated.

The control knobs feature a similar quality plastic used on the dash board and the interior has a sturdy feeling on a whole. However, the only downside the MG 5 features is the excessively tall automatic transmission level, which could have been done away with for the best effect. Two models in the higher end of the MG 5 lineup features a great interior package, complete with leather seats and an enhanced upholstery and this is not very unique as any higher priced vehicle has this feature.

The interior of the MG 5 is also high on leg and head space and as a result the vehicle is quite comfortable while being bigger than it looks. The only downside about the MG 5 is its drive and power train options. SAIC is working to develop its performance sector and the MG 5 is far from satisfactory in the performance department. The four speed transmission system lets down the vehicle as no other respectable vehicle in today's time sports a four speed transmission system.

The vehicle uses a 1.5 liter VTi engine which produces 100 ft lb of torque apart from 108 BHP. SAIC is currently working on a five speed transmission system however the official date of launch is yet to be decided. Body roll is a problem on this machine and the torsion beam axle is the primary reason for this. Wheel spin is present; however not in excess and this vehicle will not a good option to buy at the moment. The correct decision at this moment would be to go for a better vehicle in class or wait for SAIC to launch the next generation MG 5.
