Rolls Royce Working On A Convertible Version Of The Wraith
|   Thursday, May 02, 2013
The Rolls Royce Wraith will receive a convertible version, according to the British from AutoExpress. It is expected that the vehicle will arrive in about three years, which is a reasonable timeframe.

The Rolls Royce Wraith, the new coupe that rolled out of the Goodwood based brand, will receive a convertible version, the confirmation of which came directly from the British brand's CEO, Torsten Muller-Otvos, in a discussion held with the aforementioned publication.
Speaking at the United Kingdom unveiling of the Wraith, Muller-Otvos told Auto Express that "the design certainly lends itself to a drophead coupe, and I think that will be the next variant".

With this statement, the Rolls Royce chief also denied the rumors announcing that an SUV is in the works too. Muller-Otvos continued his statement by saying that in spite the recent rumors, Rolls Royce was not considering the creation of an SUV. "We have no plans to produce an SUV, definitely not, the next thing is drophead Wraith but bespoke orders are the priority." We all know what other British luxury car maker is pumped up about its upcoming SUV.

Anyway, he said that such a model is currently excluded from the Rolls Royce range. However, the British are preparing the next generation of the Phantom. This new generation will appear no sooner three years, and will most likely be offered in a plug-in hybrid powertrain version.

"Plug-in is definitely the direction to go in, that way you have range for commuting but also the ability to pass legal requirements that could force us in to driving as electric only in city centers," said Muller-Otvos.

The plug-in hybrid version of the Phantom will be a full hybrid, which means that the model will be able to run in a 100 percent electric mode. Despite all the Rolls Royce customers who have tested the electric prototype of the brand and were opposed to the purchase of such a vehicle, the plug-in hybrid version had no opponents to combat. This method of propulsion would be required to comply with the increasingly stricter European regulations, which by the way will come into force within three years. Some states are already favoring low CO2 emission vehicles, as well as vehicles that can circulate in a 100 percent electric mode, so why not take advantage of that fact?

The new Wraith model from Rolls Royce will see an increase in production. Currently, the mark is 3,000 units and the Goodwood plant will soon be able to produce up to 4700 units per year. Torsten Muller-Otvos has reaffirmed his commitment to the British factory, specifying that all the Rolls Royce models will be built in the factory, with no intention to introduce a new production facility.

So far, everything is rosy with the luxury car manufacturer and they have great plans for the future. We hope they will succeed on all fronts, especially on the hybrid Phantom project. Just imagine what a lovely beast will result from the marriage of luxury, power and eco-friendliness.
