Rolls Royce drop head Wraith convertible confirmed
|   Monday, August 11, 2014
It is finally official. An all new Rolls Royce convertible is going to be released in very recent future, most probably in 2016. They are trying desperately to coin the term drop head and use it as a replacement for drop top to describe their convertible. It might now go by the name of Wraith convertible, however.

It has been confirmed by officials at the company that prototypes of this model is presently undergoing testing just before it goes into next developmental stage.
There are going to be a number of great features on display in what the authorities described as "pinnacle of convertibles."

This car is going to Phantom drophead Coupe and will extend the line up. Based on Ghost salon, this tourer coupe model looks absolutely stunning as a concept and it can only improve in reality. Rolls Royce has put in a lot of thought into it and a huge bit of engineering to make it road fit.

It might come with a twin turbocharged V12 engine, as its hard top coupe counterpart has it. It might even have the same capacity of 6.6 litres. So that is pretty straight forward. Power outputs can be expected to be the same, because else changes much.

If it has same engine and transmission then power output of 624 bhp can be expected. However, being a convertible, it is going to be more expensive than its hard top counterpart. Expect its price tag to be well in excess of 250k GBP. That makes it a high end vehicle.

With this good news comes a simultaneous subduing of potential good news. Rolls Royce was considering developing a luxurious SUV, one like what Bentley is working on. However, any concrete development, if any, is being delayed because of development on this tourer coupe convertible.

It is a fact and authorities at this company has recognised it, that the future of automobile industry is based on SUVs and crossovers. They account for almost half of the total sales of cars annually, and thus it is important to capitalise on this sector. It seems like Rolls Royce is not exactly capitalising on anything.

Bentley is all set to release their still nameless luxurious SUV next year. On the other hand, Rolls Royce is still not absolutely sure if this is an actual demand for this kind of a vehicle in the market. So they are losing the advantage.

Plans for a luxurious SUV are still under consideration, and has been acknowledged by the Chief Executive Officer of the company himself. However, this delay is ruining it for them. If they could simultaneously work on these two models it would have been better from a sales point of view, which is not how they roll.

Coming back to the drop head, it is going to fill up gaps in Rolls Royce's existing line up. It is also instrumental in showing their capability of long term sustainability. And above all, it is a wonderful, graceful and powerful vehicle.
