Reviewing the Volvo S60 D4 on Road
|   Tuesday, February 18, 2014
Volvo's latest S60 D4 is the most fuel efficient vehicle in range right now, with CO2 emission records below 100 g/km. It is also expected to be the most frugal option in range considering Volvo's claims of using a new range of engines. Volvo plans on replacing their current range of engines quite soon, while petrol and diesel options should be available together. Power displacement ranges from 120 to 230 BHP, while a 178 BHP model is currently undergoing tests.

Despite just 99 g/km of CO2 emissions, this vehicle paves the way for future vehicles, in terms of technology and performance. Latest variants use a fuel injector from Denso, which allows constant force of 2500 bar rail pressure. This is close to 500 – 700 bars more than its competitors, which allows better combustion. Every individual injector features a sensor, which is more accurate than using a single sensor.

Precise injection control injects close to nine times on every cycle. This reduces internal friction, exhaust gas treatment, as well as better thermal management. On paper, this engine outruns every other competitor, while it is just as efficient in practical notion too. Acceleration from 0 - 60 MPH is possible under 6.9 seconds, which is similar to the five cylindered D5's performance.

On a combined cycle, the S60 is expected to return around 74.3 MPG, although these figures vary according to terrain and driving conditions. This feature makes it an irresistible choice for people willing to use it as a daily commuter. It works well for executive classes too, which also has its incentives. Volvo is providing executive discounts up to 20%, which should act as a lucrative proposition for people.

Its small 2.0 liter engine is peppy and fun to drive in an urban environment as well as while cruising. If you consider running costs, it is cheaper than most competitors. Straight line performance is classy with a punch, while this vehicle induces confidence in a driver around corners. Volvo is planning on launching five and six cylindered engines as well, although we were fairly surprised by it four cylindered diesel engine.

However, Volvo aced its competition by adding smaller wheels to its premium and business segment vehicles. Its smooth suspension and dampers work well under most conditions, while advanced level of mechanical details lend a spark, over asphalt. Priced at a moderate £29,395, it offers a grand deal, while the D4 DRIVe engine is spectacular at average RPMs. Even though it lacks refinement, offered by other German car makers, courtesy – Audi's A4 or BMW's 3 Series – it's present in a segment of its own.

If you are looking for a vehicle for transportation, do not look any further than Volvo's S60 D4 as it is pure value for money. This vehicle has class, panache, with the right dosage of performance, which puts it ahead of market competition. Stay tuned for more updates on Volvo and their new lineup, as we bring you closer to future reveals and newer engine options.
