Reviewing the Twisted 110 Utility 3.2 Ultimate
|   Wednesday, May 07, 2014
The humble Range Rover Defender has been turned into a five pot monster by Twisted, in an attempt to cater to the needs of off roaders. Twisted is known to serve Land Rover customers, by offering their best in class tuning services, although they never tried going this far before. The Defender can be swapped with parts from Ford Ranger too, although a big block V8 was on Twisted's mind all along.

The upgraded Defender is powered by a five cylindered engine, displacing 197 BHP along with 347 ft lb of torque.
Remapped ECU, intercooler and new exhaust is in place, boosting power beyond 230 BHP quite easily. This vehicle beats the standard acceleration time that this car takes to reach 60 MPG from a standstill. Despite the Range Rover having a sturdy reputation for being a tough vehicle on its own, its upgraded variant is easily capable of hauling close to 3,500 kg.

The stock four-cylindered 2.2 liter TDCi engine block is mated to a six speed manual transmission system, which is quite a tight fit between axle and bonnet. The larger engine lineup is capable of a lot more juice, which should pay off both on and off road. New suspension springs enhance comfort and drive ability, while lowered ride height ensures greater traction and ground hugging capability.

Everything about the new Defender is twisted and we do not mean that in a negative manner. Who would not like to have their Land Rover pimped with Bilstein shocks and ceramic disk brakes! Every time you turn on the engine, you are welcomed by a deep growl that is pleasing to the soul. Rev the motor harder and you are welcomed by the sweet tune of a powerful engine.

Gear ratios are sweet, which means that sufficient power is available on low and high end gears. This is very useful while you take this vehicle for a drive within city perimeters. Low end gear power is also required while heading off road. If you frequently travel on gravel or like to climb mountains on four wheels, you should seriously consider getting your Defender tweaked by Twisted.

The standard 2.2 liter engine block will seem puny and powerless once you have taken this beast out for a spin off road, although it is an amicable handler even on track. We were fairly surprised by how well the Twisted 110 Utility 3.2 Ultimate held its ground around corners, while a lot of this is clearly due to lowered springs. Steering dampers are a valuable part of this performance kit and plays an important part in ensuring that the steering wheel is always under control.

If money is not your concern and the open roads call out to you, you could consider spending £96,000 for this vehicle. It is highly capable on a straight too. We managed to pull off knot to 60 MPH in a straight line within 8.6 seconds, which is decent enough once you consider its total weight.
