Reviewing the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
|   Monday, May 05, 2014
The latest cabriolet variant of Porsche's 911 Turbo is here and this vehicle is truly race prepped and ready for action. This vehicle is an open top version, based on the Turbo and that is where all similarities end. This vehicle is powered by a 513 BHP developing six cylindered turbo charged engine, displacing 486 ft lb of torque. Weighing approximately 1595 kg, it accelerates from 0 – 60 MPH within 3.4 seconds, sporting a top speed of 195 MPH.

The engine is mated to a super efficient PDK transmission system, with additional turbo chargers, capable of shifting gears in a smart and effortless manner. Porsche has added their advanced dynamic engine mount, which reduces inertia while cornering. This helps maintain a low center of gravity and better levels of ride quality. All work has been done in house, which is another credible factor surrounding this vehicle.

Performance wise, there is no rivaling the Turbo Cabriolet, as it has effective beaten the Nissan GT-R on a drag strip. Even though this does not seem possible, Porsche has managed this feat. We can safely vouch for the performance parameters of this vehicle. Slight stutter at low speeds is the only problem we could find with this vehicle, although you need to be alert on the gas pedal, in order to sort this out.

Cornering in a Porsche has always been awe inspiring and this vehicle continues to inspire us. A very low center of gravity helps, along with a well balanced chassis and Porsche's revolutionary frame and platform. This vehicle reaches 60 MPH from a standstill, within 2.9 seconds, while 100 is reached within 6 seconds. Top speeds close to 195 MPH can be achieved, as it has been electronically cut off.

When you are willing to pay £129,223 for a convertible, make sure you get your money's worth. Interior space is not of much concern, as the front passenger seat is pretty spacious and comfortable. The Lack on rear seats enhance the boot capacity, which is considerably large, despite the folding roof that goes in place. Various additional features are currently available, although the most inspiring exterior package, have the extensive use of Chrome.

This vehicle is so much sharper than any of the other Porsches that we last drove. A huge list of electronic driver aids, enhance performance, while Launch Control deserves special mention. Once you put this vehicle in Sports Mode and engage Launch Control, the car remains stiff and pushed down to earth at all times. You just have to put your foot down and this vehicle zooms past everything else.

Traction control comes in handy and you can actually feel the difference this vehicle makes when you turn it off. Porsche has managed to silence a lot of critics, with their 911 Turbo Cabriolet. Convertibles were actually considered to be structurally weaker than a conventional coupe or sedan. Porsche proved otherwise! This vehicle is worth the money it commands and you should get a test drive to settle all differences!
