Reviewing the Peugeot 308 SW Allure e-THP 130
|   Friday, April 04, 2014
Peugeot's estate variant of their much celebrated 308 family hatch back is not as bland as you may think. Increased dimensions make it a treat for storage capacity, while drive dynamics make it fun on long journeys. If we were to cruise, the 308 estate would be a decent choice for the budget. It is a well proportioned design, which makes it look beautiful too. Its rear wheels have been repositioned to align its Center of Gravity, enhancing body balance and reducing body roll, in general.

Luggage carrying volumes have increased to 660 liters, while an additional 70 liters can be found after removing rear seats. Extra long wheelbase is good news for passengers, as this vehicle is more spacious, providing additional head and shoulder space for rear passengers. The Peugeot 308 hatch back's drive dynamics was quite supple and this has been borrowed by its estate.

Hence, you can expect utmost comfort on long journeys. This vehicle however is not suitable for urban commuting due to its large dimensions. It poses problems during parking and traffic snarls and can be a real challenge to maneuver. Driving position on this vehicle is relaxed, while instruments are clearly laid out, enhancing usability.

Despite design experts terming this difficult for use, designers at Peugeot are adamant about customers liking this layout. We are yet to see its practical impact on a large section of the crowd. Speaking from personal experience, we did not think the console is difficult to reach. This vehicle draws power from a three cylindered 1.2 liter turbo charged engine displacing 127 BHP, although a smaller 109 BHP variant could also be available soon.

Like Ford's latest Eco Boost range of engines, this vehicle has high torque displacements even at low RPMs. This engine is known to emit 114 g/lm of CO2, while its higher end variant could be a little less forgiving. Engine note is quite specific and this three-cylindered engine has a pleasant humming sound. Priced at £20,495, the Peugeot 308 SW Allure e-THP 130 is a value for money purchase.

If you are not worried about the fact that this vehicle is a lot larger than any other conventional estates that are currently available in the market right now, you could go for it. The extremely roomy interior will be to your liking, while a host of modern features have been added to it for practicality. The smart and peppy 1.2 liter engine is a treat for many, as it offers proper levels of performance, along with decent fuel efficiency.

The estate is capable of reaching top speeds of 127 MPH, while accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 10 seconds. These figures are awe inspiring, once you consider their price point. Peugeot has failed to disappoint since a long time now and we are waiting eagerly for them to come up with a more powerful engine displacement variant. Stay tuned for more updates, expert reviews and latest news, as we plan on returning with more shortly.
