Reviewing the Mercedes Benz GLA250 4Matic AMG
|   Thursday, April 03, 2014
Mercedes Benz has promised to launch GLA45 AMG this June, although until that happens, we need to be satisfied with a low end variant of the same. The GLA 250 4Matic AMG is currently Mercedes Benz's most popular cross over SUV in class and is quite different from their A Class vehicles. Basic dimensions vary, while difference in engineering is also noted on various accounts. Its low stance makes it a visual treat from most angles, while a host of modifications make it worthwhile.

Powered by a 2.0 liter four cylindered turbo charged petrol engine capable of displacing 208 BHP, along with 258 ft lb of torque, this vehicle has been designed exclusively to take on Audi's Q3 and BMW's X1. Both vehicles share considerable popularity in class, even though Mercedes Benz is slowly capturing parts of this market segment, with its new range of engines and other equally interesting modifications.

Ample torque displacements make the GLA fun to drive, even as mid level lethargy kicks in. This vehicle provides decent level of cooperation within city perimeters as well as the freeway, even though mid level torque surely needs a punch. This seven speed transmission, mated to the GLA performs well in Manual and Sports modes, although you will soon get tired of constantly using smaller paddles.

The GLA has a softer suspension system that lowers by 15 mm, even with an optional 19 inch sports rim. This increases agility that fails to settle down. Softer suspension is also of greater advantage of pot holed roads and you can cruise over these, without feeling any major bumps. Despite the GLA having smooth acceleration and performance, complete with balanced handling and traction, this is no race car and must be dealt accordingly.

If you are looking for a relaxed drive feel, you need to opt for the GLA 250 SE, with standard 18 inch rims. This vehicle provides a comfortable ride, with relaxed suspension settings and better bumps absorption capability. Hill Decent Control is available of the high end variant, while a gripping exhaust note makes this vehicle fun to drive. No major changes have been done to its interior, while average space is available for standard comfort levels.

Official figures reveal fuel efficiency close to 42.8 MPG, with CO2 emissions of 154 g/km. This makes it cheaper to run than a standard M Sport or S Line. Even though this vehicle might look cheap and unrefined at times, there are moments when you feel Mercedes Benz has done quite a bit, within limited resources.

A classy example of this would be its price tag, which starts at £30,495. Even though various vehicles are available at this budget, the thought of owning a premium segment German car, within this budget is overwhelming. Modifications should be made to this vehicle, to help it fit the bill in future. If you want to buy a cross over for practicality, there are better options available. However, if you are looking for brand image, this is your best bet.
