Reviewing the Maserati Quattroporte GTS
|   Monday, May 05, 2014
The range topping Quattroporte GTS from Maserati is powered by a twin turbo charged 3.0 liter Ferrari sourced petrol engine. This vehicle is capable exceptional levels of performance and comfort, while sporting a price tag near £110,000. This is an ambitions sports car, designed by a company that is equally ambitious, in terms of new vehicle designs and technology. Frankly, this vehicle is quite huge, to be actually considered a sports vehicle.

The Quattroporte actually began as a full bred sports car, although it gained a lot of weight over the years.
Overall dimensions have also increased over time, which makes this vehicle compete with the likes of Mercedes Benz's S Class and Jaguar XJ, in class. Sharp Italian design trends cannot be missed out, as this vehicle looks dominant from various quarters.

This vehicle is built on a completely aluminum chassis, with independent suspension, while its engine block is mated to an automated ZF transmission block. All variants are available in rear wheel drive, with Adaptive SkyHook Damping in place. Steering enhancements are made due to a hydraulic power steering system that stabilizes on sensing speed. Standard 20 inch rims are in place, with iron disc brakes, measuring 380 mm.

Apart from mechanical marvel, this vehicle manages to look great. Coupled with a muscular yet sporty image, exterior design cues separate this vehicle from traditional German built cars. Conventional frameless doors, along with moderate use of Chrome, help the Quattroporte GTS stand out in a crowd. High interior space, coupled with boot space, gives the Quattroporte additional comfort. You are bound to feel a sense of class, every time you enter the cabin.

Both rows have been stretched on the interior to provide additional thigh support. This vehicle has been built for comfort and luxury. People buy a Quattroporte is order to show class, Hence, Maserati had to extremely careful not to disturb this balance. Performance is just an added incentive for a vehicle in this class. When compared to the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes Benz S Class, a Quattroporte GTS holds its own.

Performance laden luxury vehicles are however not new, as we have seen Bentley do the same, with their Continental GT. This vehicle is not just big in terms of dimension, but also goes a long way to enhance safety, balance, ride quality, overall refinement and handling. It is high on precision and traction, which in turn induces confidence in a driver. Various after market additions can be done on this vehicle, while satellite navigation is standard.

This is a sporty four door saloon, with a killer V8 power house. However, engine refinement is not at par with the likes of Jaguar's XJR and you are bound to feel a raw sense of power, every time the throttle is floored. The Jag also feels a little quicker and quieter. Maserati has done a great job with the Quattroporte GTS, nonetheless. It is a full sized luxury saloon, capable of hitting 60 MPH in just 4.7 seconds. Impressed? You should be!
