Reviewing the Fiat 1.6 Multi Jet 500L Beats Edition
|   Saturday, February 22, 2014
Fiat has just unveiled their Beats Edition 500L compact MPV and this vehicle draws heavy inspiration from the 500L Trekking. Even though this vehicle is based on luxury parameters, it has the off road DNA, which can be used effectively during excursions. A range of styling additions has been made to this vehicle, apart from performance updates. It hence commands a price tag, £1600 more than their standard variant.

Exterior modifications on this vehicle are based on two tone color combinations, primary among which are black and grey, with gloss or matt options.
The brake calipers are visible over 17 inch alloyed rims, while its matt paint scheme is carried forward to interior panels too. 500 logos and badges are present on both its interior and exterior, while a range of equipments include Dual zone climate control, along with 520 Watt Beats Audio device.

A range of two new engines, are available on this machine. Both are four cylindered and generates close to 118 BHP. However, a 1.4 liter T Jet turbo petrol and 1.6 liter diesel engine powers this vehicle. Exterior styling gives the Beats Edition an urban feel, while its sound system definitely packs a punch. It sports superior fit and finish, while its cabin is comfortable and easy to fit.

Both three and five door variants are similarly styled. Its driving position is lifted, while this high perched feel, provides a great view of the road up front. There are times, when you do not actually feel that you are driving a 500. Special seats have been added for additional comfort for long drives, while robust suspension settings, along with damper controls enhance the way this vehicle drives on road.

Body roll is absent, which in turn helps around corners. Fiat is currently working on turbo charged variants of this vehicle and we could be getting a six or seven speed automated transmission on this vehicle. We will get back to you with additional details, as and when Fiat decides to officially announce future plans. This vehicle feels relaxed, even though it is not a performance mini.

It is known to accelerate from 0 – 60 MPH within 10.7 seconds, while optimum power is delivered at the 2,000 RPM mark. Engine note gets loud after 4,000 RPM, while heavy bass changes the way this vehicle feels on road. Its six speed transmission system feels positive and precise, while driving it over asphalt feels good. It has a smooth edge to it, which comes in handy during close quarter maneuvers.

When driving within city limits, this vehicle feels confident and easy to maneuver. If you are looking for something more exclusive than a standard 500L, this vehicle is exactly what you need. It is a worthy urban vehicle that can be taken for an occasional spin over country roads, without thinking about it twice. Stay tuned for more details regarding Fiat's 500 Series, as we get back to you with details. In the meantime, you could opt for the Beats Edition.
