Reviewing the 2014 Mercedes Benz C250 BlueTEC
|   Saturday, March 15, 2014
Mercedes Benz's latest C Class provides a sporty yet ethnic drive feel. Even though it is sufficiently poised and balanced, this vehicle needs improvement in certain spheres too. However, this vehicle is not up for any major face lifts or modifications any time soon. Hence, if you plan on getting yourself an updated C Class sedan, you'll have to wait till 2011. Insiders at Mercedes however feel, that this vehicle is as luxurious as things can get.
Hence, there is no need for immediate upgrades.

Its interior is highly comfortable, with a rare class of beauty, highlighting sophistication. Even though certain enhancements have been made to this vehicle, it is approximately 70 – 100 kg lighter than its predecessor. Aerodynamic efficiency has been enhanced reducing drag coefficient by a considerable margin. Mercedes Benz claims that their C Class vehicles are ecologically efficient by 20 percent, although we need to get our hands on it for actual testing, before approving these official figures.

As a result, even though the last generation C Class was highly successful, insiders claim that their new vehicle outclasses its predecessor and rivals, in various aspects. Engineers have updated the entire drive train powering this vehicle. As a result, considerable improvement in terms of efficiency and performance is expected. On road tests will commence soon, post which, we will get back to you with a comprehensive drive test review.

Interior trim is available in a variety of forms, namely Sport, SE and AMG. Base price for the C200 SE is £26,000, while their C250 AMG is available for £35,000. We are however looking at the C250 BlueTEC model as an advanced cost saving measure, as this vehicle returns greater fuel efficiency than any other vehicle in range, while prices start at £30,000. High sales are expected on this account.

Mercedes Benz is also offering a range of high end suspension measures, to setup new driving and comfort parameters. Even though these trims may cost a few extra bucks, it is bang on target, for providing the most effective solution. Engineers have focused extensively on turbo charged diesel engines for this class and it seems to have played an important role.

Various engine options are set to be offered soon, although just one option is available initially. A four cylindered 2.1 liter diesel engine, displacing 201 BHP at 3,000 – 4,200 RPM, along with 368 ft lb of torque at 1,400 – 2,800 RPM. It is capable of pushing this vehicle past the 60 MPH mark from a complete standstill, within 8.1 seconds, recording a top speed of 155 MPH on its way.

Every engine option should be mated to a seven speed automatic transmission, although confirmation is yet to arrive. Even though it lacks a rack and pinion steering column, the C Class vehicles use power steering to make up for it. It is pretty smooth to drive on road, as this vehicle is not meant for extensive track performance. We plan on returning with drive test reviews soon. Hence, stay tuned.
